    Passed the CompTIA A+ 220-1201 (Core 1) and 220-1202 (Core 2)

Congrats! Instead of leaving the TTT voucher to the last minute as I've done in the past, I'm actually writing the 220-1201 exam this afternoon :)

Linux+ v8 guide from Sybex: skips a whole objective

You might also consider using the CompTIA CertMaster materials, complemented by the custom lab resources I developed for the Linux+ TTT session.

Linux+ v8 guide from Sybex: skips a whole objective

In the past, I've been the technical editor for all of the Linux- and UNIX-related titles at Wiley (at the request of other authors like Richard Blum and Christine Bresnahan since other Linux authors often provide for the most valuable technical reviews). However, this year I haven't heard a...

Did CompTIA become part of Microsoft?

That is likely CompTIA's certificate for their Microsoft EntraID single sign-on (SSO) and associated domain/tenant in Azure. No, CompTIA is not part of Microsoft (to my knowledge).

You can also use the link in the original meeting invite for any missed sessions to get the on-demand version too :) I believe they are made available about an hour after the session ends.

Nope—it's 100% "Who's on 1st" style humour from yours truly!

    CompTIA TTT Exam Vouchers

Ditto here, and I'll write that exam soon. On a related note, I wish the A+ exam came with letter grades instead of scaled scores… That way, we could all look forward to conversations like: Person 1: I just passed A+! Person 2: Awesome! Which test did you take? Person 1: A+. Person 2: Yeah, I...

Have you EVER heard of or used the tac command?

There's definitely no shortage of text tools on Linux. Tools like awk, sed, cut, paste, nl, etc. are lumped into next Thursday's TTT on the shell because they are often used alongside redirection, and they’re easier to introduce a bit later in the course, once students have some shell basics...

    Passed Network+ today!

Ditto here, but I did have many questions with subnets that were not /8, /16, or /24, so that was refreshing as it's more aligned with "using" subnets today rather than calculating them :)

Linux+ Train the Trainer session 2025-09-09

Hyper-V is definitely a Type 1 hypervisor, even though it comes with the Windows operating system. This is because it sits underneath the Windows host OS once you install it as shown below. This is also why, when you install Hyper-V for the first time on Windows, it reboots to load Hyper-V...

Linux+ Train the Trainer session 2025-09-09

Hyper-V is a Type 1 (bare-metal) hypervisor that comes with Windows Pro and higher editions (though it can be installed on Home if you look up how). Being Type 1 means Hyper-V runs directly on the hardware, with a lightweight virtualization layer in between. This allows near-native performance...

    Passed Network+ today!

Had a dusty old voucher lying around from the last TTT — figured I should probably use it before it expired and turned into digital compost. This exam actually had a suspicious number of networking questions on it... 😏 Props to the TTT session for giving me just enough of a guilt trip to...

    Do You Report Cheating?

Braindumps have existed since the early days of IT certification, dating back to when vendors like SCO and Novell first introduced exams. While the widespread use of braindumps is disheartening - undermining the credibility of certifications and devaluing the efforts of those who earn them...
