Can I use Prof.Mark Ciampa videos presented during CIN SY0-501 TTT series in my Security+ class?

    Hi,

    I have a question. I am teaching Security+ SY0-601. I am using Prof. Mark Ciampa's textbook. I have his videos presented during the CIN SY0-501 TTT series several years ago. Unfortunately the On24 links for that series do not work any more. I found some of his videos still relevant to the current exam and go along with his textbook. I think they will be beneficial to my students, because we are using his book. Can I use his videos in my class? Of course I will give a full credit to his work and CIN. If it is ok to use these videos, I will edit them so that they are short and to the point (I will get rid of chat question for example).

    Second, I would probably reach out to Dr. Ciampa and see if he would let you use the videos in your course. Usually, CIN instructors bring their own materials into a TTT series and are usually okay with instructors using that material to prepare their courses. But I probably wouldn't use his materials until I got permission from him first, as a courtesy. But I don't think anyone could unilaterally give permission to those works, except for Dr. Ciampa.

    I've generally advised folks that the materials in the TTT are for YOUR development, not necessarily materials to teach your course. Sometimes the line is fuzzy and blurry, which is why it's always better to ask first - even if you think it's okay,, again, it's a courtesy at least.

    Thanks Rick. I will ask Dr.Ciampa. I think some of his videos will be a good quick review for my students.

    I probably got the wrong On24 links. It seems like your links work fine.

    What I typically do is, if the video or material is on a public domain i.e. YouTube, then I share the link to the class and play it in-class if I got time.

    If the video or material is not on a public domain, such as the TTT series (co'z it is meant for trainers, not the public), then I only share what I learned from it. If the item that I wanted to share is the lab exercise for example, then I'll try to do similar lab exercise with the class.

    When I taught my first TTT I was specifically asked if I minded my stuff being reused by trainers who took the course and I believe this is still generally the practice. However, I agree with @Rick Butler that in general you should view TTT materials as things you can use to develop your own course/labs and to not just use as is... If nothing else, because the TTT materials are meant for trainers to get them up to speed on a new exam and not necessarily designed for direct student use, though admittedly some labs and such are. It's up the the TTT instructor.
