So I just could not wait for the voucher. I sat for the XK0-005 exam yesterday and passed. I had put in many hours preparing for XK0-004 and only decided to take the 005 exam because of all that I got out of the TTT webinars hosted by @Stephen Schneiter and presented by @Lee McWhorter. Based...
Labs are great but I've taught many adults who demonstrated anxiety that they couldn't or wouldn't be able to succeed in completing labs. They 'can't do hands on'. I believe it's important as instructors that we demo the lab system to students. I know using CertMaster for Sec+ the lab build...
If you received the survey that is being distributed in advance of this webinar I suggest you take 10 minutes and respond to it. I thought it was very well structured and written. The survey provides many valuable opportunities to provide feedback to the CertMaster team.
I always suggest my students break big problems down into smaller problems. It works well no matter what course I'm leading. OSI is a great example of breaking network communications down into smaller, more manageable challenges. It also highlights how there isn't always one solution to a...
Check out the 'All-in-One' CTT+ Exam Guide by Joseph Phillips available on Amazon. In my opinion a very good book that will relate everything you need to know to pass the 201 exam.
I've done 'Instructor' certifications before for Novell, and Cisco. I'm pursuing CTT+ now. I have to tell everyone I'm a huge fan of Joseph Phillips 'All-in-One' CTT+ exam guide. I bought my copy used (and yes, I feel guilty about that - I should have bought it new). It's copyrighted in 2012...
I've found the CertMaster for Security+ Labs to be a great hands on training tool for students. Based on a hosted lab environment they feature both assisted and applied lab exercises. There are many hints and opportunities for additional learning included in the labs via drop downs.
All true Tess. And remember that many of the SSL vulnerabilities impacted commercially developed and supported products that used (but did not exhaustively test) community developed libraries. And Linux is open-source!
Thanks for all the great feedback. My take aways...
It seems like many are moving to MS Teams. My experience with Teams was meh... Due to the roll out of the product I didn't have access until after the start of classes. Big problem. Again because it was new to the school students were not...
I'm going to go contrarian on you all.
Linux is open source. Agreed.
Most Linux distributions can be configured to be secure from a wide variety of known threats and vulnerabilities. There are many distributions of Linux. The default security posture of different distributions varies...
Regarding Carlos and Tess comments about MS Teams... I've taught recently at a university that uses Teams (this past academic year) and the feedback from faculty and students was that the Team space had to be setup and was unavailable on the first day of classes in the Fall (likely a Teams...
O.K. CompTIA Instructors. What tools are you using to share materials with your students? Materials could be text files to PDFs to videos.
Google Drive?
DropBox?
Box?
Website?
Other...
I've used Google Drive, DropBox, and websites. All of their pros and cons. I'm looking for opinions and...
I don't know if I'd agree with "it's not hard to make work, overall.". The biggest 'gotcha' I've encountered recently is that Pearson rule that Instructors who teach a class cannot proctor exams for their own students. I've heard of that being interpreted different ways at different test...
Check out these cyber ranges ...
https://www.virginiacyberrange.org/
https://www.uscyberrange.org/ (if it looks just like Virginia that's because it kind of is)
https://www.rangeforce.com/ and
https://cyrin.atcorp.com/
There are others including some that only cater to businesses and...
I'll just add that the hardest part of the Cloud+ for me was what I believe is the hardest topic to teach and to learn. That is when an exam objective says 'given a scenario' or 'troubleshoot...'. There was lots of that in Cloud+. I have plenty of network diagrams and scenarios that I can...
