    I think it depends on their background as to which to take first. If students have more of an IT background, especially a solid foundation in networking, DataSys+ will probably be more manageable as a starting place. If they have more of a math background, and have had some statistics training...

    Teresa Sears told me it would just be learning materials--curated course materials to enable students to go straight to the Sec+ course. But maybe I didn't clarify my question well enough? Or maybe they have future plans to create new certs? They also talked about working on digital literacy...

    Not sure if you heard--this is about to change. CompTIA acquired TestOut earlier this year. They said the TestOut certs will be removed from the platform. The exams will still be there, but they won't be associated with any certification.

    Network+ or A+?

    What you might be thinking of is the renewal process. If you pass A+, you get your one certification. If you have already passed A+ and then pass Net+, it also renews your lower level certs, including A+. But have to have already passed A+ within the previous 3 years...

    From a content developer's perspective, I'll just say... Some companies place greater emphasis on learning design, pedagogy, and learning theory than others do. There are also many different learning audiences, and no single product can do a good job of addressing all these audiences' needs...

    Teaching to the test is not the same thing as helping students prepare for the test. I think it's completely legitimate to discuss how concepts might be tested, and what kinds of surprise topics might show up on the exam. The only way I can know those things is if I've taken these types of exams...

    But when we can renew these certs via TTT vouchers, it's not "spending money", it's instructors keeping up with the exams as the TTTs are intended to do. I think keeping certs current is less important to me than seeing the exams regularly, so I can better help my students know what to expect...
