Connecting Technical Skills with Business Needs

Thank you so much..........What would you do if the network exploded?’ 🤔🔥
I haven't covered that one in a Table-Top exercise yet. However, if it literally did explode, my first impuse would be to locate the fire extinguisher!!!

Thanks for that question. I'll definitely ask about that situation in my next Table-Top engagement!!!

IT professionals need to match corporate goals with their technical expertise. How do you instruct students to consider business impact while dealing with IT problems such as security breaches or network optimization?
Most IT professionals do not have the Business level experience nor the decision-making authority to deal with these kinds of questions. This is usually the domain of an IT Manager or a CIO. Something to consider is the level of communication that IT professionals have with business leads. Many times, they don't speak the same language. Have a hard time understanding one another. So it is actually a very rare find indeed, to Have someone in your organization who can do both. Usually, it's an IT professional who has sort of grown up and moved into more of a management role.

I have always maintained, however, that IT should follow the business. Sadly, IT is often excluded from business communication - because IT is often seen as the 'computer and network fix-it people'.

This is why I despise being called "IT guy".

Maybe 'Business-Tech Translator' should be the new title!
