Feedback Requested: Is the term "multicloud" a thing?

The Marketing Team here at CompTIA would like some feedback. We want to get your perspective on the term "multicloud".

Is multicloud a term that is used in the industry/market? If so, how would you define it?

We are conducting some market research and validating some messaging. Your perspective is much appreciated.

Yes, definitely it is. In these so called new normal every company has moved to a BCP situation and no one is interested in hanging tight to the DCs they own. SLA & BCP are driving organizations to Cloud and from there Multi cloud.

Multicloud is common practice in accelerators and startups that are getting to the point where they can scale, but need to keep costs to a minimum.
The accelerator center I did some work for a few years ago had me build a devops workflow that would stage and run app containers the startups were building automatically on the PaaS public cloud provider that was most cost/resource effective at the time - they leveraged GCS, AWS and DigitalOcean.

And in the light of AWS recent action against Parler (regardless of your feelings politically on the matter), that would put the resilience of a single cloud provider into question as now a single cloud architecture becomes a single point of failure for a company. And with that AWS outage of US-East-1 back in November, organizations may want to rethink this notion of stuffing their critical services with a single vendor, even one as big as AWS.

There is no such thing as the cloud; it's just someone else's computer.

I'd personally never heard anyone use that particular buzz-word, but the concept behind it (spreading your services across >1 cloud provider) is common and makes a lot of sense.
