IPSec - What Layer 4 Protocol Used?

IPsec uses UDP at layer 4

And it's covered in N10-009

Objective 1.4 Explain common networking ports, protocols, services, and traffic types
And as fast I could post a query, precious has supplied the response - the CORRECT one at that!!!

IPsec exclusively uses UDP, instead of TCP, in order to enable IPSec packets to pass through
firewall. With this use of UDP, this would make IPSec tunnels faster than SSH tunnels - cause
we know that SSH's riding partner is TCP. However, as it sometimes the case, a benefit is
offset by a drawback. In the case of IPSec using UDP, there can be packets lost in transit.
Oh well, as Whitney Houston sang in one of my favorite songs, "Didn't We Almost Have It All"!!!

Wow😄, I did not expect to end this discussion with a Whitney Houston reference, but here we are! 🎶 ‘For a moment in time, you and I were forever and a day’… talking about UDP, TCP, and lost packets! 😄 Thanks for the shout out

The reference to the Whitney title song wasn't planned - it just seem to blend in nicely to the discussion :)
