Good question. My gut instinct reaction would be that this is about Oracle databases, because they're one of the parties to use that literal acronym + definition.
Well, it might refer to the old skool way of identifying Windows machines on a network. I remember when we would clone machines by bit level duplication and we would have to "Walk the SID" by generating a new one so it could join the network as a unique node.
