CompTIA has recently listed the retirement date for the SY0-601 exam as July 2024 (see
https://www.comptia.org/certifications/security#examdetails ).
Briefly looking at the differences in focus from the current exam to new exam draft objectives, I'm sensing a substantial difference. Below is a comparison of the identified domains for each exam along with a percentage of exam content:
SY0-601
1.0 Attacks, Threats, and Vulnerabilities 24%
2.0 Architecture and Design 21%
3.0 Implementation 25%
4.0 Operations and Incident Response 16%
5.0 Governance, Risk, and Compliance 14%
Total 100%
SY0-701 Draft Ver 3
1.0 General Security Concepts 12%
2.0 Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations 22%
3.0 Security Architecture 18%
4.0 Security Operations 28%
5.0 Security Program Management and Oversight 20%
Total 100%
It almost seems they are heading in a less technical and more program and project management direction. At least that's what the percentages listed seem to suggest.
