So...Network+ I thought there wouldn't be a book...

    And I was told over and over at Summit that CertMaster Perform was going to be the de facto text, rather than a study guide/printed book - that there wouldn't be a book. I was even asked, directly, "why would you even want a book, etc etc"

    And then, one of our curriculum folks sent this to me:

    So naturally I am perplexed....is CompTIA back in the book writing business again, given that it would seem less of a popularity with having CertMaster Perform take the place of a bona fide textbook?

    Or do I have something wrong / missed something, etc etc? Wouldn't be the FIRST time, but I'm wondering now...

    Saw ebooks for Tech+ as well...

    I'm going to have to speculate that you have something wrong, or that you did miss something. I can't even begin to imagine, that any one of the very knowledgeable CompTIA staff, would have mislead or misinformed you - of all people!!! As the Warden said, in the movie "Cool Hand Luke", after he had just finished clubbing Luke (Paul Newman) across the noggin, "What we've got here is failure to communicate"!!!

    I'm sure an explanation is winging its way to you, as I compose this response, to wipe away the fog.

    Well, I don't think the sale has been done yet...but books don't come around that fast, so one might wonder.

    I'm not sure if it's a communications failure - my guess is that perhaps CompTIA walked that bit back? One concern I did hear during the Summit was about getting access to training materials in closed areas. Since CertMaster products would all require internet access to access, the e-book would be the only alternative. Plus, I do quite remember, even here on CIN shortly after Summit, an argument about the discontinuance of books. Remember during the Train the Trainers for Net 009 and Tech+ - no book, just access to CMP. Maybe it's an equivocation, but...something....changed.

    Well, I was wrong once before, and then I realized, I wasn't wrong.

    This is true, but bookstore management becomes a cost center, along with the logistics of 'just-in-time' ordering vs keeping a back stock which then becomes a loss if the books change out, etc etc. E-books and electronic media are much easier to manage for that.

    Leaving the college bookstore to be place to go to buy overpriced college merch and swag that will end up in a box after about three years.

    That may be true, but it's a change of trajectory from what I observed at Summit - so either they always had the intent of doing books, or, saw a backlash, and decided to quietly offer them.

    I just picked up the Security+ book. I always need a physical one for my needs. I will be picking up the Network+ if they have then too...:).

    The 'Instructor Guide' on the store page. When you select the one package for the Book you will also get a digital code for the digital stuff in the package. Just note you will have two orders in your cart when you check out which is what it is suppose to be. I made the mistake of deleting my digital order and had to reach out to the store thinking I did something wrong.

    Well, Security+ is still out there as is other certs from before the LabSim days. To clarify, basically all NEW certs, beginning with Net+ 009 were going to be without a book. But again, it appears that changed.

    Personally, I do not disagree with the change - I think CompTIA should continue doing books for those students or organizations that may not be able to leverage CertMaster. /r

    Ah, I thought the books were already gone. But good if they changed it. I say should still be an option as well. Thanks Rick for the update.
