I had a student test over the weekend for Network+ and he indicated that he actually had to open up machines and type commands to get information to the screen in order to answer the questions. Now I've been teaching CompTIA courses for nearly a decade, have many of the CompTIA certs and I don't remember, except for CASP (SecurityX) having to do actual interactive labs during the exam. Can anyone elaborate?

Your student is correct, they do have questions that allow a limited set of commands to be typed in. Only SecurityX has full blown virtual environments. Performance Based Questions have been in most CompTIA certifications for quite some time now, all of your students from the last decade would have seen these as the first questions that show up in the certification exam. They have gotten more advanced of late. The only cert that does not have PBQ's is Tech+ I believe.

Here is the CompTIA page about PBQs: https://www.comptia.org/en-us/resou...opment/performance-based-questions-explained/
