Who's coming to the Partner Summit 2022 in Chicago? Room block closes on July 18th! Register Today!

While the timing of the Summit is ideal (it's our break week at the college, and Chicago is an easy drive for me), sadly I won't be able to make it because it's also the week I've scheduled for migrating my staging/production platform used for over a dozen workflows at the University of Waterloo...

    CIN Instructor of the Year

If there's fame, fortune, and a check involved, then yes - I'd be happy to! Otherwise, no. COVID-19 sounds too much like a Jira ticket code... ?

    CIN Instructor of the Year

So I was the last person to win CIN Instructor of the Year? Maybe it's because my stage performance was too hard to beat ? :ROFLMAO:

Open Source alternatives to popular software

I always get asked this question in a Linux course (sometimes in others as well), and this site does a pretty good job of answering it. It covers many popular SaaS solutions as well. https://www.opensourcealternative.to/

What are you using to share files with students?

We use MS Teams for class-related stuff because all staff and students have college-provided M365 accounts. So, we naturally use that for file sharing since each Team sets up file sharing via SharePoint, and it's unlimited. A nice bonus is that each student has a 1TB OneDrive, and can instead...

    Wireless Exploitation Framework (WEF)

This is a tool that was recently released - I've been playing with it today and it's quite well done and fully-featured. As a result, it'd be a great addition to a Pentest+ (or Security+/CySA+/CASP+) course. https://github.com/D3Ext/WEF

    Preview of Linux+ XKO-005

It's amazing how some things in tech never change. UNIX/Linux were cool back in 1993, and they're still cool today:

Using DNS to do more than name resolution

This could be a fun extra to Network+ and/or Linux+/Server+/Cloud+ for sure! https://www.dns.toys/

The only Linux command you need to know!

You can install it with "dnf install cheat" (Fedora/RedHat/CentOS) or "apt install cheat" (Ubuntu/Debian) or "pacman -S cheat" (Arch) or "zypper install cheat" (SuSE): https://opensource.com/article/22/6/linux-cheat-command

New (and free) online education for macOS/iOS support from Apple

I also used this opportunity to update my 2017 blog post on "macOS for Linux admins": https://jasoneckert.github.io/myblog/macos-for-linux-admins/ There's a bit of humour hidden in there too ;-)

How long have you been CompTIA certified?

My first CompTIA cert was A+ in 1998. Back then, you had to know your IRQs for manually configuring devices like sound cards, and there were questions on ARCNET, NetBEUI, IPX/SPX, SIMMs and MCA cards too :)

ZAPcon 2022 presentations available on YouTube

There are some great talks in there, including Jim Manico’s epic OWASP keynote: This is a great addition for any Security+/CySA+/Pentest+/CASP+ course.

New (and free) online education for macOS/iOS support from Apple

This would make a good addition to the macOS topic within an A+ course (or if macOS is covered within your Linux course): https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022/05/apple-introduces-new-professional-training-to-support-growing-it-workforce/

    Cybersecurity history

I've never understood why in Canada and the UK there seems to be some weird push towards calling it Cyber Security (including at my own college). But I firmly told our Academic Services dept and exec management that the industry calls it Cybersecurity, so that is what it is and what we're going...
