The answer is yes, but AV are limited due to ransomware continuous evolving. The old cat and mouse metaphor.

Technically : No. Because that AV is an old term. EDR or better XDR Solutions praise, they protect against Ramsonware.
Companies may call their Product still AV and offer Ransomware Protection, but that is marketing.
But then again, if the Ransomare comes in as Virus or Worm, the AV my detect it, but not when a new process starts to read and writes 1000 of files per second...
Using the Term AV is more in the history of evolving Security solutions..
But i would stay put and say: no, not intended for AV.
