Application of credits for exam renewal

Hey guys!

A few weeks ago, I submitted the credits (50 CEUs) I received after achieving the Cisco CCNA CyberOps certification, to renew the CompTIA Security+ certification. In the section dedicated to Continuing Education of Certmetrics, credits have been applied (100%), but the expiration date remains the same: 3 years after obtaining Security+. Should I wait until it expires, so that it is automatically renewed, is that it? And once renewed, are the other certifications (A+ and Network+) also renewed?

Thanks for any clarification.

Do not wait until it expires! You cannot renew once it has expired; only retest!!! Here is the link for all the information about renewing certifications. If this does not have the info you need, open a support ticket. https://www.comptia.org/continuing-education/learn/how-to-renew

Yes, renewing Security+ will also renew A+ and Network+. Always try to update the highest level cert in the pathway. ;)

Renewing with a different cert is not the same process or result as renewing by retaking the SAME cert. Once you are no longer just taking a higher level CompTIA cert to renew, the rules change and you have entered CPE-land which now requires the CPE fees. You can split the 3-year renewal fee over 3 years, which is why many refer to it as an "annual" fee, and no CPEs will be credited unless/until your fees are at least paid up to the current year of your 2-year cycle. The only reason to wait toward the end of the 3-year cycle might be IF you think you may do the "all-in-one-exam retake that does not require the CPE fee. However, that only works when taking the next higher code number exam of the same CompTIA exam BEFORE the 3 years are up OR the next higher exam up on the CompTIA certification chain. ( https://www.comptia.org/continuing-...ity/earn-a-higher-level-comptia-certification )
Eventually, you get high enough that CPEs are your only option.
On that page, it says (near the bottom):

This FAQ page also has information not found in the CPE pages but applies to the over all program as well, and has some of the information you are asking about: https://www.comptia.org/continuing-education/learn/comptia-continuing-education-program-faq

This page shows how the CEs work.https://www.comptia.org/continuing-education/learn/how-to-renew/ce-renewal-cycle
You CAN do them all in one year but until you have done enough CPEs AND paid for all 3 years, it won't renew.

On the other hand, if you take a CompTIA cert such as the CySA+, it DOES automatically update your 3-year Security+ cycle, with no payment required.
At least that was what happened to me, the first time.
