CE or not CE, that is the question.

I just received a 90 Day Reminder Regarding your CompTIA Certification email letting me know that I needed to complete certification hours or retest for one of my certifications.

Having attended so many wonderful TTT and reaping the rewards, I was not sure which Certification it was applying to so I had to go look. Turns out it was my Cloud+ ce certification. It also says N / A under continuing education.

Here is my question (though I think I know the answer): Even though it says "ce" after its name, this is one of the certifications that the only way to renew is to retest on that exam?

Linux+ is the other one on my list. I just successfully retested my CySA+ ce and it renewed some of the others, but not those, which is why I am certain I know the answer already. I am just confused I guess about the "ce" labeling. Now that I think about it, it is probably just to indicate it expires.

While I'm certainly not opposed to renewing certs through continuing education, I'm really not a fan of the spaghetti-situation with CompTIA's certs (nor with the multiple fees if you have a wad of certs).

The site's FAQ and resources are well written and very understandable, but even with those I needed to contact support to help me figure out which of my certs do or do not renew each other. And I've promptly forgotten again.

... A flow chart would be nice :D
HaHa- it IS convoluted. CompTIA will charge you only ONE CEU fee for the renewal cycle. I paid the $150 and was pleasantly surprised to be able to get back in and declare intent for Cloud+ after renewing CASP+ with CEUs. However Cloud+ is the tricky one. Any...

I see what you mean here, now. Sorry for my misunderstanding! For CASP+, Cloud+, and Linux+, you have not yet met the requirements to renew. Here is the link for learning what you need to do to renew any given cert:

Hello Andrew,

I am unsure why it says NA under continuing education (let me find out, however it may be that we don't have a CertMaster CE product for these), however both Cloud+ and Linux+ need 50 CEUs for renewal.

NOTE: If you renew your Cloud+, it will automatically renew your Linux+ as well, so plan your renewal strategy around what higher certs renew which lower certs.

I just passed the new CySA+ in March, that was what prompted my question.

Any combination of 2- PenTest+, CySA+, and CASP+ will renew Cloud+ but requires CE fees. *only if earned within the same renewal cycle and earned AFTER your Cloud+. I had used FedVTE courses for CASP+ renewal and they were all applicable (pre-approved) for Cloud+ but I just had to go through the act of declaring those same courses with Cloud+ as intent.
EDIT: clarity, CySA+, PenTest+ and CASP+ provide partial credit for Cloud+ renewal.
