Hi Maneli,
Yes — he will still earn his A+ certification.
The exam language is simply a
delivery option selected when scheduling with Pearson VUE: CompTIA records a “pass” against the
exam code (220‑1201 for Core 1, 220‑1202 for Core 2), regardless of which translation was used. CompTIA’s rules do not require both Core exams to be taken in the same language, and the A+ credential issued is exactly the same — no language is mentioned on it.
The only hard rule is the exam version/series: “
Core 1 and Core 2 exams must be taken from the same version, no mixing allowed”. So 220‑1201 (German) + 220‑1202 (English) = A+

, but 220‑1101 + 220‑1202 = no certification

.
One thing to check before he books: if his German Core 1 was the older
220‑1101 (V14), that series is retired — 25 September 2025 for English and 20 December 2025 for all other languages. The 220‑1102 exam is no longer available and that pass cannot be paired with a V15 Core 2, so he would need to take
both 220‑1201 and 220‑1202. If he already passed
220‑1201 (V15), he can go straight to 220‑1202 in English with no problem.
