Hi everyone, this is a double duty post - 1st an intro. I'm in NYC, A+, Net+, MCP, MCTS, Google IT Support Specialist, & Dell certified. Currently reviewing for sec+. "Retired" tech returned to college to become a teacher & recently graduated. Hired in june to teach IT support based on the A+ & Net + objectives, but due to covid lockdown limbo haven't started yet.

Part 2 - to Brian I'm VERY interested in working with the Deaf & HOH community. I've been studying ASL for a few years & tutoring Computer Science & Algebra at an ASL high school since September. Contact me at [email protected]

Hello all:

I just recently joined this group and seeing many great ideas.
Forgive me if this has been asked before as I was not able to find any previous post related to this subject.
Does CompTIA have any integration with Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Canvas or Moodle?

I was using Testout and want to switch over to Learn/Labs for my professional training business as well as adjunct teaching that I do with a community college.

This is actually a very good question. I personally haven't seen any material built that way, but that might be something cool for some enterprising LMS developer....

But that would be good to have Moodle modules or something...or at least some kind of SCORM package?

Hello everyone, I see a few familiar faces. This is a new platform. I am a security professional and have been work with Taz on the youth project. I train students to becomes security practitioners and I train teachers to become security professionals. I am currently working on my CASP certification. Any advise. My target date is September to take the exam. Nice to meet all of you.

Hey All,

First day! In 2010, after the factory I was working in shut down, I returned to the local community college for 2 years and studied most of this but never sat for the exams because the money wasn't there and none of the jobs I was applying for required them. I had a job as a System/Network Admin at a small, family-run manufacturing company for the past 8 years and I touched a little bit of everything. So now, here I am, returning to the same school I attended only this time as a full-time instructor teaching those courses. Next month will be my first semester teaching Security+ after teaching networking in the spring. We a a CompTIA partner school but our certified instructor, my old instructor, is semi-retired and I am trying to get up to speed. I hope to teach the course this semester and learn enough to be comfortable taking the exam myself in the spring. :unsure: (Though that seems a little backwards.)

Anyway, hoping to pick up a lot here as I am working through things.

Hey Tim! Welcome to the CIN! We're glad to have you, friend.

I think we all can trace our humble beginnings to that small, humble outfit that had 10-20 dilapidated computers that we had to keep running, despite that shoestring budget. Meanwhile, on our makeshift desk made out of portable tables would be that borrowed copy of an A+ study guide, next to three coffee cups, all about 1/4 full with aged coffee.

Or that instructor who was brought in to cover a class, where he's one day ahead of his class. Yessir, I've been there too! Just never let your students see you sweat.

You'll pick up a lot by attending the Train the Trainers (next year...we just finished TTT CySA 2.0), the Sneak Peaks, Webinars, and of course, tomorrow, the Partner Summit!

Post often out here and let's hear about your story as you work through that first pass through Security+! We've all been there, so if you hit a wall, post and use the awesome power that is the CIN to turn your students into rockstars!

And for you, hit the Resources on the left and go through the Sec+ stuff - it will help you when you do the exam!

Nice! I have a bike myself - a 1974 Suzuki GT 750 (Water Buffalo) that my father bought in '74. It is in my garage most of the time, as it's more of a family heirloom. I take it out now and again, but don't ride behind me...she smokes (Two Stroke Triple).

It's great to have you hear. Gave your Cyber Bootcamp a bit of a look over as well...how long is it and how much do you cover?

@Rick Butler Thanks for the fast reply, that is OLD SCHOOL! How awesome it must be to ride and show of?!?! Two smoke triple, eh? Probably not quite ready for the new Euro5 exhaust emissions, is it?! Must be a beauty when you are at the drive-in getting ice cream, that's for sure! My 2015 FJR 1300 is an amazing upgrade from my '05. I rode the '05 for 87K near-trouble free miles. I snagged the '15 on a close out and the improvements are out of this world. In '16 the FJR went to a 6th gear, tilting-in-curve-headlights and even automatic suspension. Simply amazing. However, I was pleased with my '15 and am quite happy with it. Riders who have the '16+ models speak highly of them too. Thanks for asking! Ride safe!

The CCC program runs for 16 weeks (well, pre-Covid anyway) with the last two weeks of review. We cover the entire CompTia e-book, i.e. all 764 pages of the "2019 Update". We are always open to how to improve testing outcomes, testing preparation methods so please share!

Separate but related,Chicago has an Evolve Academy as well, https://www.evolvesecurity.com/ but I don't know which curriculum they use or how they utilize CompTia, if at all. Some programs don't even aim for their students to pass the Sec+ test, e.g. https://www.nexgent.com. I looked at it extensively but their tuition is quite high (if you pay up front, if you pay over time the tuition nearly doubles). Thank you!

I do get a lot of folks that wonder about my bike when I ride it out. There aren't many Water Buffaloes out on the roads anymore. Design flaw where the CCI tank intake would be above the oil level when the bike cornered, causing the engine to seize. So, I keep the tank above half always. But when she's running, she sounds like a corn popper for sure. She's still a fun ride, for a near 50 year old bike.

Our CST program in Colorado Springs and Albuquerque run 10.5 months, taking the student from ITF up to Sec+ with Linux+ and Microsoft MTA built in. I wanted to add CySA+ and PenTest+ as part of an Associate program, but our owner didn't want to do that. I was sorely disappointed, as I had built it up, with lesson plans and syllabi, ready to teach. Maybe some day.

Meanwhile, make sure you have a look at the resources and the recent TTT series for CySA. Teresa Nash brought out a LOT of great things that might work for your class.

Anyway, I saw you in the CIN room for the Summit today - great to see you in there and pleasure to make your acquaintance!

Yessir, I was there...I'll probably end up replaying a lot of it to catch some of the stuff that went in one ear and out the other, whilst hanging upside down working tickets of getting called into ad-hoc meetings.
