Do you remember which lesson and slide number it was?
The deck is 220-1101-05, Slide 19. It reads:
•Private addresses are restricted to local networks
•10.0.0.0/8 (255.0.0.0)
•172.16.0.0/12 (255.240.0.0)
•192.168.0.0/16 (255.255.0.0)

Sorry, I don't see any mistake. Those are the correct private addresses and the correct subnets. Even if most of the people are using 172.16.x.y with a 255.255.0.0 subnet and 192.168.x.y with 255.255.255.0 subnet doesn't mean that is correct. Or maybe I'm missing something.

Private addresses according to RFC 1918:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

The problem with presenting it as 172.16.0.0/12 is at the A+ level, few students have gained a clear understanding of subnetting and supernetting. Probably better to explain that the second octet for private non-routable networks is from 16 to 31. Wait until Network+ or a Cisco router course.

That's my $0.02.....

HOLY COW! I have been wrong about this all these years? (not to mention that MOST resources on the Internet, as well as previous iterations of this class AND others have been wrong too!)

After your response, I went to the source. the IANA. I was always of the mind that 172.16.x.0 (classful) was /16, and 192.168.x.y (classful) was /24. I have even looked it up and seen so many sources that confirmed that. According to the IANA (https://www.iana.org/assignments/iana-ipv4-special-registry/iana-ipv4-special-registry.xhtml) I (and so many other sources) have been wrong. To paraphrase my favourite TV show of all time: "I am just wrong. I will just stand here in my wrongness and be wrong."

We are never too old to learn. I thank you all for helping me! :)

My wife and I are currently binge watching it for the fourth time.
LOL! I have watched it beginning to end at least 7-8 times, but probably more than that. The original reason I got satellite TV back in 2000 was so that when I was working or otherwise then I would be able to catch the west coast feed. My (then) wife and son bought me the DVD box set in 2007... it is the only set of DVDs that I have kept (even though I usually watch it streaming when I am in the mood.
