Is it beneficial to study for Core 1 and Core 2 together or separately?

Most of the courses I have seen combine the Core 1 and Core 2 material into a single course. Do you think there is any benefit for students to focus on Core 1 first and then Core 2 (after passing the Core 1 exam)?

Yes, for the simple reason that preparing for one exam is less time-consuming. Students just need to focus on a single set of topics, which encourages them to write the exam sooner than later.

Combined delivery. The exam questions are inter-related in Core 1 and Core 2.
In fact, Cisco IT essentials course which cover CompTIA A+ certification combines the topics of Cores 1 and 2 into a single course.

Study for both. There is some crossover between the courses and the exams and it would benefit the test taker to study both before attempting either exam.

Our experiences have been that when students study to each core instead of both together, then take exams seperately and spread apart, A+ certs aren't as plentiful as when they study both cores as a unit...

I've seen countless people study for both and then take them back-to-back on the same day. That's how I earned all five of mine as well.

Oh, I agree. I took my A+ many moons ago on a dare. I took the 101/102 (yep...that old), on the same day, because some clown decided to dis me for getting my MCSE the week before. When I rolled in with my MCSE and my A+, he had no choice but to shut his mouth.

Felt good doing that.

I have taken the A+ three times. I sat for the first in 1998 (Exam 101/102) when it was an adaptive test, on the same day. The 900 series and Core series I took one at a time, the way I prefer. It's a lot of content for someone relatively new, so concentrating on one at a time can be helpful for some.
