Passed SecurityX CAS-005

Nice. I have mine coming up later this year. Going through the CertMaster Perform material in depth to see how well it *actually* prepares a candidate to take SecurityX. I'm not entirely confident in that, as I went through the DataSys+ materials and took that exam - there were topics on the exam that did not appear in the training materials.

I've always considered there to be a disconnect between the CompTIA training materials and the actual exam, IMAO.

I didn't use any study materials. Since this was a recertification, I just went in blind and took it. I only saw a few questions on topics that weren't already covered on the previous version of the exam. And I was surprised of the ease of 3 of the 4 PBQs.

One thing I did notice about the CASP+/SecurityX exams:

I took both the CAS-004 and CAS-005 and passed them both. And in both cases, the exams had a VM question. Also in both cases, I skipped the question entirely. In neither case did it make a difference in my passing. Either the question is unscored or it counts for very little. It seems like the question has low ROI if it can be skipped and not impact the results.

I've got DataX coming up in the next month. Time to work on that one.

I took the exam online using Pearson Vue's OnVue service and it was issue-free.

From what I could tell, the exam has not changed much since the previous version. As I said before, I didn't look at the exam objectives or study at all but still had a rather easy time. Of the four PBQs, three were very basic and simple. The fourth one seemed out of place. I'm not sure why it was included at all.

The exam had a time of 2 hours and 45 minutes, but I finished in 45-50 minutes.

It extended my SecurityX, PenTest+, CySA+, Security+, Network+, and A+ through 2031.

Thanks for sharing your experience, this is very encouraging.... Is it that you felt easy because of your real world experience, since you didn't look at the exam objectives?

I've got 30+ years of IT experience, 25+ years of technical training experience, and 20+ years of cybersecurity experience. I passed the previous version of SecurityX in 2022, and also passed the CISSP and CISM. Yeah, I'm sure that it was easy for me because of my experience. I barely studied part-time for a week when I took the CISSP.

This is exactly what happened to me last Friday when I took the exam and passed. The VM question is very confusing, The scenario and instruction window is taking most of the screen, with the actual VM window being like 1/4 of total exam window area, which has 4:3 ratio, with no obvious instructions on how to maximize it, so there is this "Next" button that I pressed intuitively, hoping that it will close the instructions and take me to the VM, but, instead, it just moved to the next question. There should be a warning message like "Are you sure you want to skip this VM Lab question and move to the next?" Also CompTIA/Pearson should look up the stats on how often this VM question is skipped due to mistakes like this.

P.S. It took the exam at the Testing Center

It really shows how deep experience makes a big difference.

Did you report it to the proctor or CompTIA about that VM question afterward?
