Regarding the CertMaster CE product

Hi All,

I originally obtained my Security+ Certification in July 2020 with the SY0-501 version. Three years later, in 2023, I renewed it using the CertMaster CE product for security+ at the time. Now, it's renewal time again. I would like to ask some clarifications because some of the official info is a little conflicting.

In this information page about CertMaster CE:

Complete a CompTIA CertMaster CE Course | CompTIA

Renew with CompTIA CertMaster CE, an e-learning course, without having to take a new exam.

It specifically mentions SY0-601 or earlier.

However, in the actual product page:

Security+ (Plus) Certification | CompTIA

Security+ validates the core skills required for a career in IT security and cybersecurity. Learn about the certification, available training and the exam.

All the way to bottom where the CE Product is, there is no mention of or earlier. Only SY0-601 is mentioned by name.

Will I be able to renew my certification using the current CertMaster CE product for Security+? My expiration is on the 24th this July, but I can probably bang it out in a week. Just have to consider the purchase approval process in my company. Any clarifications are welcome.

If you scroll down to the CompTIA CertMaster CE Security+ Details section, you'll see that it states:

"An active Security+ CE certification earned by passing exam SY0-601 (V6) or earlier."

Based on that, I believe you should be eligible. However, if you'd like to be absolutely certain before purchasing the course, I recommend contacting CompTIA Support to confirm your eligibility.

What I wished that page said is "those with an an active certification can use the CE product to extend for another 3 years." or something like that.
You can use CE courses even if you used a CE to go from 501 to 601. As long as it is current, you are good to go.

I contacted support about this and it has been confirmed that I can indeed use the product to renew my certification. I'm going through it now. Support also acknowledged the discrepancy so I hope the descriptions get fixed.

If you have a current certification that has not expired yet, you can use the CertMaster CE, but only if it is for a newer version of the exam than the one you passed. CertMaster CE is only an option for the A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications.
