Student question stumped the class, unable to drive the nail home for this question.

In CompTIA Network+ N10-008 Student Guide, Pg. 163. or Instructor Guide Pg. 168.
Question 5 states:
5. A company has eight networks, using the subnet addresses 192.168.0.0/24,
192.168.1.0/24 … 192.168.7.0/24. What network prefix and subnet mask can be used to summarize a
supernet route to these networks?

Answer:
It takes 3 bits to summarize eight networks (23 = 8). Subtracting 3 bits from the existing network
mask makes the supernet network prefix /21. The third octet of the mask will use 5 bits, which is
248 in decimal (25 = 248), so the full mask is 255.255.248.0.

This class is unable to grasp this concept, & I am running out of ways to explain & time to stay on track to finish class where I need to for the day. Any help explaining is greatly appreciated.
I am impressed about this

Student question stumped the class, unable to drive the nail home for this question.

When I am teaching subnetting and binary, I use/build the same chart for them. I use WORD, and build a table for only 8 bits at a time.
https://filebin.net/9r05cq1z4uuc4xor I uploaded the file to filebin, that I usually use (its a .docx) I will build my chart in front of them. I will explain binary to them and color coordinate which is the Network bits, the Host bits, and the subnet (borrowed) bits. I have been able to get my point across to everyone so far.
There is some left over writings on their from my last class, you should be able to piece together, what I was doing from those remnants.
I hope this at least helps in some small way.
FYI, that filebin link is only good for 7 days?

Curtis

Hi , Resource Help

Hi KarthikEs,

Have your company get in touch with your CompTIA Account Executive or Customer Success person, and they can help you with obtaining that information.

Also, don't forget to go to the Resources tab, and you can see all the other On Demand resources that are completely free to view and learn from.

In the meantime, there is a Network+ Train the Trainer, that's currently going on. After registering, you can view the sessions you missed on demand. If you view all the recordings/live sessions in the specified time, you'll be emailed a free voucher to take the CompTIA Network Plus exam to help you get certified in it.

Here's the sign up information for that:

How to become CTT+ ?

Hello KarthikEs,

Welcome to the CIN community! :)

The CompTIA Technical Trainer (CTT+) certification was retired last year. However, with your other qualifications like being an MCT and VMware certified Instructor, it sounds like you're a very qualified instructor already! The companies you train for, will likely want you to be certified in the CompTIA certification that you want to teach.

Typing error in CertMaster Perform Network+

It is 802.11a-ht.

It is not a typo rather, it is probably that someone in the writing / author team is very much into Aruba or Intel networks. 😅

HT refers to high throughput, referring to standards up to 802.11n
VHT refers to very high throughput, typically referring to 802.11ac and above
I hope this helps!

6.4.10 Lab - Question 3

Good day!

Just like to share the experience re: TestOut Lab 6.4.10 > Question 3 is confusing.

It asks, which IP address is assigned to the CorpNet Bldg A router?

1721282603518.png

However, when you check the exhibit there's CorpNet router and a Bldg A router.
1721282586352.png

Many students answer based on the CorpNet router whereas, the question is actually asking for the Bldg A.

I've sent the feedback for TestOut / CompTIA to rewrite the question to just Bldg A router, instead of CorpNet Bldg A router.

N10-009 Slide errors

Hello everyone, if you are teaching N10-009, do take note of a few errors on the slide deck. (Maybe the content creators can update the materials?)

m5s19.png
Module 5 Slide 19 (Question 4 suggested answer should be OSPF)

m6s31.png
Module 6 Slide 31 (The diagram is cut off at the bottom, steps 6 and 7 is not visible)

m9s39.png
Module 9 Slide 39 (Should read "Rogue DHCP Server Attacks involve an unauthorized server distributing incorrect network addresses to clients")
