• Question
How often does incoherent proctoring via OnVue occur?

G'day all.

I've been hearing reports of incoherent and unpredictable proctoring by OnVue employees for a few years now. Never to such a degree that I thought it was happening in huge amounts of cases, but one could reason that anything over 0.5% of the exams is already egregious.

The latest thread on Reddit is getting raucous responses -> Login to view embedded media
Proctors are often perceived as overly strict, focusing on making students "fail", giving students contradicting instructions of even (intentionally) giving instructions that would normally break rules.

This matter is something that has a lot of students worried for their exams and they actively blame CompTIA for it, all the more so because CompTIA and PearsonVue will point fingers at each other when the affected student tries to dispute the aborted exam.

I'd love to hear from CompTIA how they handle quality control with PearsonVue.

Hello CIN Community,

Is there an Instructor Training Certificate for CertMaster? I'm curious. I did see a posting on here for a remote A+ instructor position that requires an CertMaster Instructor Training Certificate or documentation of completion. The job posting is attached.

Ideas for improving in-house talent (Sec+)

I recently facilitated (not taught, no pay) a Security+ session. We wanted to get as many of our in-house staff certified in Security+. We met twice a week (30min, 2 months), and for the training, we used ITPRO.TV. Many people will tell you that budgets are tight, but this was a very low-cost option. You can use any learning platform, we used the one we had, and then we bought the CompTIA vouchers. The first person took Sec+ this weekend and passed. The rest are taking the exam in the next couple of weeks.

What I learned doing this:

1) You really have to emphasize to the employees that they will have to study independently.
2) It's good to go over concepts, so they understand and master a subject.
3) Drilling test questions helps but determining why the answer is correct is very beneficial.
4) Eliminating bad choices helps them narrow the answers down from four choices.
5) This helped me prepare to teach another class here soon. I was able to try new teaching methods, and while not a paid engagement, I found it rewarding.

Improve Your Writing: Authoring Website Content

Truth be told, I enjoy writing web-based articles even though the compensation is often non-existent. I guess that's the teacher in me who's spending less and less time in the classroom but wants to keep teaching. Recent authored content has been forwarded to Certification Magazine, one of the Noel Roberto Vallejo Media Group products (like GoCertify, TestOut), more than willing to publish articles I write. An example of what I've submitted that will be published on their website this month is attached. Having taught technical writing courses in the past, I often tell students the most effective way to improve their writing skills is to "write, write, write."

So, as an instructor, if you want to get your name out there, give article writing a try.

  • Question
Do CIN get access to Certmaster labs?

Do CIN members automatically get access to Cert master labs or receive a voucher for them? I am looking to get more familiar with AWS and Azure cloud services and looking for any and all resources to help me. Mainly labs which will allow me to get some real hands on experience.

Also, I am currently going through the Cloud+ CV0-003 TTT videos now but do we have any idea on the next time it will be offered?

Appreciate all the advice and help!

Alternative Acceptable forms of ID

Hello everyone!

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Please let me know if it should be elsewhere!

I have a recent high school graduate who doesn't have a driver's license, state ID or passport. However, he does have his school ID. Is this acceptable since he doesn't have the other forms of ID or does he need to obtain another form before taking a certification exam?

Thanks in advance!

  • Question
CompTIA Learning Resources for Security+ and CySA+

Having taught both Security+ and CySA+ courses fairly recently utilizing the CompTIA student guides and labs for both courses, I'm finding that for CySA+ the student guide provides detailed content for the CompTIA labs but the same is not true for the Security+ learning resources. I see real value, particularly for online courses where the instructor is not available during lab times, for the CySA+ content model.

Question of the Week #22- What Has Your Experience with CompTIA Support Entailed?

Hi Everyone!

Following up on last week's question and diving a little deeper; In the past, what has your experience with CompTIA support entailed?
What worked and what did not work as well?
What can we do better moving forward?

We can't wait to hear from you.

Check back in on Friday for some information about the Partner Support Team!

Is Linux secure or insecure?

When I teach Linux+ course to students, I normally start stating that one of the pros of Linux is that it is open source and secure.

Immediately many students start wondering and asking me the following question.

"If Linux is open source software, which means that all its source code is available on the internet, this means that all the bad guys (crackers) over there on the internet can see its inner code and may discover any weaknesses on the OS's code and exploit that weakness for their benefits. Then how you are telling us that Linux is a secure OS?"

Can you please help me on how to reply to their worries and answer this viable question? Any hints?

Million Thanks
