Security+ (Exam SYO-701), Performance-Based Questions (PBQ) Answer Key Availability?

Hello!

My Comptia rep stated there is no official answer key from the company for Security+'s 701 PBQs. Did any of you create your own that I could model from? I was just going to answer each question one-by-one, take screen shots, repeat as needed, to share with my class but I'm hoping there is a better/faster/strong/more efficient approach that has already been done.

Any guidance would be appreciated, thank you!

Xpert Series - DataX and CloudNetX

There are three XPert Series exams: SecurityX, DataX, and CloudNetX.

SecurityX (formerly CASP+) is an expert level cybersecurity certification. It is higher level than Security+, CySA+, and PenTest+. It also renews each of these certifications.

DataX is an expert level data science certification. It is a higher level than Data+ and DataSys+. It currently does not renew either of these certifications.

CloudNetX is an expert level networking certification. It is a higher level than Network+ and Cloud+. It currently does not renew either of these certifications.

Does anyone know if DataX or CloudNetX will renew lower level certs or provide partial CEUs for lower level certs at some point in the future?

@Stephen Schneiter, do you have any information about these certifications?

Unused servers

In our program we were utilizing several servers for hosting vms through VMWare on GNS3. However we recently had to stop due to the increase in VMWare licensing costs. So, now we have several servers that are essentially unused. We are considering other types of vm software, but I wanted to see if I could get any good ideas of how we could utilize them outside of VMs to help with student learning. Any input would be appreciated.

New voucher pricing is per-version?

Hi all,

There have been a few threads about this on r/comptia the past week. Like this one -> Login to view embedded media
Up until very recently, one would always buy an examination voucher for a specific certification. You'd buy a voucher for A+, Net+, Sec+, etc.

But now the shop has vouchers per exam version? And the new A+ exam is actually more expensive? What the heck?

  • 1101/1102 vouchers are EUR 228 apiece.
  • 1201/1202 vouchers are EUR 244 apiece.
What's even stranger is that, it's been reported on Reddit, you can still use the cheaper 11-series voucher to book a 12-series exam. CompTIA's own FAQ also says this is still true.

CompTIA, you're now just creating needless confusion.

Questions Regarding A+ 1200 Series and CertMaster Learn

Hello - I’ve been teaching A+ for the past few years and typically have students read the material, complete quizzes, and work through the assigned labs (with lab codes). However, the new 1200 series appears to be a bit different, and I haven’t had a chance to review all of the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) sessions yet—but I do plan to.

I have a few questions as I get up to speed:
  1. Is the "outline" considered the same as the E-Book/Textbook?
  2. I’m using CertMaster Learn—do I need to create custom quizzes, or are they provided?
  3. Where can I locate the labs?

I appreciate your help!

Requesting options for classroom textbook and lab for A+ and Net+

I joined the Instructor Network so that I can hopefully garner input for my program. I teach high school grades 9-12 and for years I have used Mike Meyers' Guide to Managing and Troubleshooting PCs (and Networks) in what they call the "split book" series, meaning there is a separate lab book containing chapters that correspond to the textbook. The lab was a step-by-step, hands-on guide that helped reinforce the material in the textbook. I'm now searching for something similar, as the publisher is discontinuing the "split book" series and is only printing the All-in-One series, and that won't work for students at the high school level.

I know that many high schools use learning modules to simulate working with hardware, but I prefer actually handing students a physical WAP/PC/switch/router for them to configure. With that in mind, is there another printed textbook / lab book series that anyone could recommend for my program? I prefer a book with end-of-chapter questions (multiple choice, essay, etc.) as well as lab scenarios. The books need to cover the 1201-1202 A+ series, as well as the N10-009 Net+ series. Thanks in advance!

Proctoring CertMaster Competency Exam for student outside of LMS?

Hi, all.

I have a student who wants to study CertMaster Learn Network+ on their own and complete the competency assessment (which my school uses to award "prior learning" course credit). How would the student go about taking their proctored competency assessment without being in one of my classes?

Wondering what type of organization you work for as a trainer

Hello all. I'm trying to get an idea of the kinds of organizations that are employing CompTIA instructors. Apologies if I missed some blatantly obvious source of that information (someone please tell me if I did), but i really only have a vague idea of what kinds of organizations need CompTIA instructors.

My initial wild guess includes:

  • IT training companies
  • Corporations with large IT staff
  • Trade schools and career centers (I work for one of these)
  • Independent trainers
What am I missing? Is anyone willing to educate me here?

DataX APPLIED LAB 4.1.3 -- Official Answer for Question 2

Hello Everyone!

I am working through Lab 4.1.3 APPLIED LAB in the DataX class and I am uncertain as to the answer to Question (2) below and justification for the answer. I repeatedly get it wrong and I keep having to restart the Lab VM just to get to try the get this question correct. I think I am applying sound thinking as to what the correct answer should be, but perhaps there is someone who can provide the official answer and why it's the official answer?

(2) Which of the following columns can be calculated?
year
day
dep_delay
arr_delay
air_time
month

I am going to eventually get it right after going through all of the possible combinations but it is much appreciated if someone can help clarify why the official answer is what it is as I am misunderstanding the context of this question. I will need to explain to the students why this answer was chosen to remove any subjectivity.

I had also asked previously if there is a place where all of the DataX lab solutions and answers to all questions are posted so students can refer to them afterwards on their own time. Is there an update on this, and is there a plan to provide an answer key and/or ZIP of the completed notebooks?

Thank you!

PenTest+ Students have fewer labs than instructors

I prepared to teach PT0-003 using the CertMaster instructor materials, which have 44 labs. The CertMaster PT0-003 student materials have only 28 labs. CompTIA customer service did not have any information on this.

Does anyone here know why the CertMaster PT0-003 student and instructor materials don't have the same labs?

SpiceWorks - No longer "Free Forever"

Hello CIN'ers (and particularly those who are SpiceHeads) -

Not sure if you heard the news, but it would seem that SpiceWorks' pledge to be forever free has gone the way of the dodo. Those of us who have been using the SpiceWorks cloud helpdesk for years, asking for Entra ID and better methods for inventory and asset tracking have been disappointed, particularly when SpiceWorks discontinued the On-Premises model that worked so well in the early years. But I guess their pricing model isn't paying the bills, so...

If you have more than five active employee users in the system, as the annoying banner says, you have until 05/31/2025 to pay up or find a new home for your helpdesk needs.

So, let's talk Help Desk Systems...

What are you using for your current ticket tracking? Is it working out? Are there things you wish you could do that you can't? Paid or premium options? Worth paying or nah?
