Full-time Network+ Instructor in WA (Updated with more details!)

The job has been officially posted, so a few new details:
View the job posting on Indeed
I work for Cascades Job Corps, a residential vocational training program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Our students are disadvantaged youths, ages 16-24.
We are located in Sedro Woolley, WA, USA.

We are looking for an experienced Network+\A+ instructor, ideally with recent industry experience.
It's a salaried continuing contract position, and a great opportunity for someone who wants to transition away from teaching online.
The position's starting pay is $55,000
The position does not require a college degree, or teaching certificate, but excitement about teaching young people is essential.

To Clarify:
This is an on-site position. The job is teaching A+ and Network+ to a class of 15-25 students. We have open enrollment, and your students live on Campus, so they nearly always show up to class. We have a lot of great equipment, and we have a lot of autonomy about how we run our classes. It's a fun position.

Please reach out if you would like to learn more. Thanks!

  • Question
Course Length Network+

I was asked a question, why does the Network + course have to be a week long course?

How long do take to train the Network + course? a week, two weeks?

What would your answer be when posed this question? why a week or longer? and would i show them my detailed plan for the training?

Theres another question in there, how do you plan for the week or forever long you train your course?

I always want to improve so some insight will be appreciated.

now exam is 3year renewals by test

Until recently if you renewed a CompTIA certification by taking an exam your certification was not renewed by 3 years from expire date but date you took test on. If used CEUs and renewed early it renewed from expire date.

When I just passed Security+ and it renewed network+ and security+ for 3 years from expire date. So mine expire in 2027. I am glad they do this.

I agree with following but caveat for you. If you do then have a long expire date, nothing counts for renewal on that new cert date until you get in 3 year window to expire date.

Data + Materials

Hi @Stephen Schneiter

Good day to you.

""NOT REGARDING EXAM VOUCHER""

I registered Data+ using my outlook email address.

I watched all the videos. However, I never got the materials.

I checked with my fellow trainers and they have received the materials. Can you look into it?

Regards
U

Are delimited files Structured or Unstructured?

The material seems to imply that delimited files are structured, but on the practice exam there was a question asking which file types are considered unstructured and the only right answer was Delimited. Was that an error on the question? or are delimited files a weird hybrid of both structured and unstructured?

TTT two Sessions 1101 and 1102 collide

Can it really be, that the last Moduls of 1101 are on the same day as the bginning of 1102 only one hour apart ?

I just registered for the 1102 Series and added the Dates via .ics to Outlook:
17th :
0600 CDT: Session 1 for 220-1102
0700 CDT: Session 11 for 220-1101
19th:
0600 CDT: Session 2 for 220-1102
0700 CDT: Session 12 for 220-1101

I though the Sessions running each for 2hours.

Is that by purpose?

I watch them later, since this is in the middle of the Night for me, so i doesn`t apply for me, only if you following live...

Michael

Turning down students

What are your indicators that a relationship between you and a potential student is not going to work? I recently had a student who demanded I change my family schedule (start class later) to be able to let her sleep in to mid morning. This student also refused to communicate by phone and was surprised and offended when I suggested that they would need to rely on personal study and practice test taking in order to take in the information (change it from passive understanding to active application of knowledge) well enough to pass the certification exam (which this student had already failed once).

I am NOT trying to start a string of complaints about students. I AM asking if you have a metric or threshold that you use to measure your potential effectiveness with students.

In this case, after a few more conversations, I declined to further work with the student.

Passed PenTest+

Happy to share that I passed the PenTest+ exam today. Thanks for running the TTT, helped with my studying and is good prep and direction for studying and future teaching opportunities. Having this resource in my arsenal was pretty valuable. For those still prepping and studying for the exam get your hands on as many study materials as you can from different sources, that will make the difference. Good luck to the rest of you!

A Funny Thing

So I was sitting in my chair reviewing the A+ TTT for Session Five, and of course, treated to my own wondrous and melodious voice and picture of me. BTW - Alan is doing a great job, so if you're not watching them, you need to start!

My oldest (23) comes in, looks at my screen, "So, whatcha watching - is that a recording?"

Without missing a beat, I say, "No kiddo, it's live."

I love my daughter. She's a genius programmer, making that crazy money in software development. Degree in CS and Math. Knows about five languages and can speak Ansible natively. And apparently, she had a tough day dredging through tickets.

But...

She figured it out after a minute. Had a chuckle - went on to play Mass Effect.

A day in the life in the Butler household. Good times.

1001 and 1002 Retirement

Once again I feel we're being done over here.
I have just got my key for my 1101 and 1102 Instructor manuals.
I am running 1001 this week and we've just been talking about the exams. I have just seen that the 1000 series will be retired in October 2022, giving anyone currently studying it only 6 months to complete both courses and both exams.
Why such a short time? If they fail an exam there will be limited time to resit it. They can't get time off work to attend courses at the best of times and now they've got to cram both into 6 months???
Net+ was updated in Sept 21. That exam retires June 30th 2022, 9 months later so why is A+ different?

VR Training

VR since its inception has been used for training. Recently, VR has started to become mainstream ever since Meta's metaverse goals. I was wondering, who feels as I do that its about time that VR is used in the IT industry. The closest was the Cisco CCIE Virtual Reality Experience that was an internal demo. I believe now that CompTIA is serious about their own training materials, it is ripe open for CompTIA to be first.

CertMaster Learn + Labs for CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner

We are considering CASP+ for my community college. Not part of our regular cirriculum but an advanced single class we'd offer to students, alumni, as well as others interested in taking the CASP test. Just wondering if anybody has feedback on the CertMaster Learn + Labs for CASP? If so, do you feel it helped you and/or your students prepare for and pass the CASP+ exam?

Thanks!

John
