CIN Exclusive Live Stream Event - Instructor Toolbox Session

Join us for our next CIN Exclusive live-stream event!

Get ready to participate in a hands-on, practical cyber exercise with CompTIA, Cubic, and Cloud Range Cyber. For the next CompTIA Learning session, we’ll be conducting a cyber range exercise focused on protecting critical communications infrastructure. This will be a workshop, so prepare yourselves to interact with experts as you learn unique skill combinations that solve today’s critical issues. Throughout the session, AWS and Cubic will outline critical ways to manage, improve, and secure Mission Partner Environment (MPE) networks and communications. They will outline ways to cope with Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, and Limited (DDIL) environments, for example. All the while, we will all work hand-in-hand in a cyber range. We’ll be working inline and in real-time with experts who will help you learn the skills to help unify and secure edge and cloud for better communications and outcomes.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:
  • Describe the critical infrastructure attack surface at the tactical edge for enterprise and cloud environments
  • Discuss typical and asymmetric attacks that occur
  • Identify critical, hands-on security analytics methods for protecting communications
  • Create new cross-skilling pathways and learning opportunities with confidence
This session will last roughly three (3) hours. We will divide the action into three parts. In the first 30 minutes, AWS and Cubic will outline the opportunities and problems that today’s tech workers need to solve. We will then delve into a cyber range where you can hone practical skills and identify future learning pathways for you and/or your group.

Candidates can earn CEUs for the following certifications:
  • CompTIA A+ ce
  • CompTIA Network+ ce
  • CompTIA Security+ ce

Has the Official CompTIA Instructor/Student Guide eBook been replaced by CompTIA CertMaster Study?

Today, I visited the CompTIA Store to purchase the Network+ Instructor Guide eBook, but I found that this product is no longer available in the store. I noticed a new product, CompTIA Network+ CertMaster Study, priced the same as the original eBook, and it’s the same for other courses as well. Can someone explain this to me? If I want the official slides for instructors, which are typically included in the Instructor Guide eBook, where can I purchase or access them now?

Linux+ V8 TTT Series by Jasson, I enjoyed it.

I have finished my training of the Linux+ TTT series with Jason this week. It was awesome. I have been delivering training on Linux, Networking, Cybersecurity, and Penetration Testing since 2014. I learned the following things from @jassonesckert .

1.) How can you engage students in an online session for 2 hours? It seems easy after this TTT series.
2.) Make an interactive session in Video tutorials (self-paced course).
3.) Practical First and Theory second. It seems a 3-5-time revision of the same topic. it is interesting.
4.) Always has a smiley face.
5.) Make available self-made resources.

Thank you, Jasson, for giving your valuable time in this TTT series.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Please be aware that October is Cybersecurity Awareness month. There are many different cybersecurity organizations that recognize and offer additional educational resources around this designation. One such are the folks at StaySafeOnline:

https://www.staysafeonline.org/cybersecurity-awareness-month

They offered an online event on October 1, 2025. You can watch the recording at the link above. Their messaging for this year is that small actions can make a big difference. They have focusing on the Core 4. Four easy steps anyone can take to boost their online safety:
  • Use strong passwords and a password manager
  • Turn on multifactor authentication
  • Recognize and report scams
  • Update your software
As instructors I encourage everyone to help spread messaging about the 'Core 4' and talk about how students can use these and more advanced techniques as well as how they can spread the word about improving cybersecurity.

Passed the CompTIA A+ 220-1201 (Core 1) and 220-1202 (Core 2)

Hello CINers

- Spent about a week to prepare and write both exams after realizing I had quite some exams to trash out before the 2025 is gone.

- Used the CertMaster Perform study materials, slides to prepare

- Wrote both exams about 7 days apart

- Each exam starts with about 5 performance time-challenge questions(spent about 10mins each) and a lot of other tricky then moved on to much easier multi-choice questions.

Thanks

Linux+ v8 guide from Sybex: skips a whole objective

G'day everyone!

I bought the Sybex Wiley study guide for Linux+ v8 (XK0-006), because that's the book my students will also be using.

I was looking forward to the authors' take on a few of the new objectives, most importantly 4.5 on the responsible use of AI and LLM.

The book's preface promises that objective 4.5 is discussed in a chapter, plus the header page for that same chapter says it's in there. But no. Absolutely zero mention of AI, LLM and related topics. It's not in the index, it's not in the table of contents, not a word is breathed about the whole objective 4.5

I've submitted an erratum form to Sybex Wiley, who have "forwarded it to second line"... but it's gone dead silent since then.

I also noticed that this new version of the book no longer has Christine Bresnahan on the cover; it's now only mr Blum. I wonder why.

  • Question
CompTIA quiz lockout features

Question, in TestOut when a student was taking a quiz, they were not allowed to open another TestOut tab without kicking them out of the exam. I realized today that while students were taking a quiz, one student had 4 CompTIA tabs open. 1 to launch the exam, 1 to take the exam and the other 2 the student was scrolling through the curriculum, looking up answers.

Does CompTIA have the functionality to not allow them to open other CompTIA tabs while taking an exam?

Cloud+ renewal changes with v4?

Apologies if this has been addressed here before and I just didn't see it when searching. So... as you can see below, CompTIA's site currently states that earning Cloud+ by passing exam V3 automatically renewed A+, Network+, and Linux+, and that V4 automatically renews nothing. Not only that, but it looks like V4 provides 15 CEUs toward Network+. This was the case with V2 (and V1, I'm presuming), with it fully renewing A+ and Linux+. V3 changed it to renew all three.

Has it really reverted to just 15 CEUs for Net+ and nothing else at all with Cloud+ V4? Passing the V4 beta actually renewed all three of my lower level certs.
