Partner Summit: Day 0

Hit the ground and got to meet a number of great folks already. @Stephen Schneiter and @Thomasina Hammond found me, even without the hat. I think the shirt gave it away. They're doing the last minute preps to get On24 out there for the virtual attendees.

Hope to see/meet more of you today or tomorrow! And if you're attending Virtually, post out here as well!

CompTIA Inclusive Technical Language List

I am trying to create a list of CompTIA new inclusive technical language that has the old and new terms. I found this resource: https://www.comptia.org/blog/inclusive-technical-language. It is not a complete list, such as I do not see on-path (man-in-the-middle). Is there a complete list somewhere?

The Twelve Commandments of Security

From tonight's TTT and other associated posts...feel free to comment...

I would always print these out and display for Security Classes.

The Twelve Commandments of Network Security
  1. There is no such thing as Absolute Security and there are no silver bullets
  2. The three goals of security are Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability
  3. Always practice Defense in Depth as a security strategy.
  4. People, when left to themselves, make the worst security decisions.
  5. Security involves both Functional and Assurance requirements.
  6. Security through obscurity is never good policy.
  7. Security means risk management
  8. The controls of security are prevention, detection, and response.
  9. Complexity is the enemy of good security.
  10. Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt are not good motivators for security.
  11. People, Processes and Technology are all necessary in order to have good security.
  12. Open disclosure is a good thing for security.

  • Question
Average Success Rate

Greetings all!

I work for an organization that is expecting an 85% success rate, even during the pandemic. To them, success is defined by certified students. This was a pretty high standard to maintain, pre covid. I wanted to know if any one of my peers has been able to achieve this level of certification. If so, what is your secret? If you could share your success rate, that would be great as well. Thanks!

Partner Summit - you can now register for the Virtual Event!

Greetings, we are pleased to announce that if you can't join us in person, you can now join us virtually!!!! Register today to join us for live-streamed sessions or watch on-demand. Register today! https://mypartnersummit.comptia.org/virtual-event

CertMaster Instructor Training Certificate

Hello CIN Community,

Is there an Instructor Training Certificate for CertMaster? I'm curious. I did see a posting on here for a remote A+ instructor position that requires an CertMaster Instructor Training Certificate or documentation of completion. The job posting is attached.

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

  • Question
Do CIN get access to Certmaster labs?

Do CIN members automatically get access to Cert master labs or receive a voucher for them? I am looking to get more familiar with AWS and Azure cloud services and looking for any and all resources to help me. Mainly labs which will allow me to get some real hands on experience.

Also, I am currently going through the Cloud+ CV0-003 TTT videos now but do we have any idea on the next time it will be offered?

Appreciate all the advice and help!

Question of the Week #22- What Has Your Experience with CompTIA Support Entailed?

Hi Everyone!

Following up on last week's question and diving a little deeper; In the past, what has your experience with CompTIA support entailed?
What worked and what did not work as well?
What can we do better moving forward?

We can't wait to hear from you.

Check back in on Friday for some information about the Partner Support Team!

Improve Your Writing: Authoring Website Content

Truth be told, I enjoy writing web-based articles even though the compensation is often non-existent. I guess that's the teacher in me who's spending less and less time in the classroom but wants to keep teaching. Recent authored content has been forwarded to Certification Magazine, one of the Noel Roberto Vallejo Media Group products (like GoCertify, TestOut), more than willing to publish articles I write. An example of what I've submitted that will be published on their website this month is attached. Having taught technical writing courses in the past, I often tell students the most effective way to improve their writing skills is to "write, write, write."

So, as an instructor, if you want to get your name out there, give article writing a try.

CTT Virtual training available

Virtual training Comptia instructor with over sixteen years LOOKING TO DO TRAINING IN Central time zone. Also spent time in Office Automation. I have written my last Core 2 exam 220-1102 on the 1st August . Now Certified in 220-1101 and 220-1102 and able to train on the new A+
N10-008 and ITF+. SECURITY SYO-601 AND CTT+, Currently preparing for DATA PLUS AND CYSA. ABLE to do remote training virtual in CENTRAL Time. My rates negotiable. Contact me on [email protected].

Ideas for improving in-house talent (Sec+)

I recently facilitated (not taught, no pay) a Security+ session. We wanted to get as many of our in-house staff certified in Security+. We met twice a week (30min, 2 months), and for the training, we used ITPRO.TV. Many people will tell you that budgets are tight, but this was a very low-cost option. You can use any learning platform, we used the one we had, and then we bought the CompTIA vouchers. The first person took Sec+ this weekend and passed. The rest are taking the exam in the next couple of weeks.

What I learned doing this:

1) You really have to emphasize to the employees that they will have to study independently.
2) It's good to go over concepts, so they understand and master a subject.
3) Drilling test questions helps but determining why the answer is correct is very beneficial.
4) Eliminating bad choices helps them narrow the answers down from four choices.
5) This helped me prepare to teach another class here soon. I was able to try new teaching methods, and while not a paid engagement, I found it rewarding.

Alternative Acceptable forms of ID

Hello everyone!

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Please let me know if it should be elsewhere!

I have a recent high school graduate who doesn't have a driver's license, state ID or passport. However, he does have his school ID. Is this acceptable since he doesn't have the other forms of ID or does he need to obtain another form before taking a certification exam?

Thanks in advance!

Phil Blas
