Instructor Toolbox Poll: What Browser?

When teaching or training others I most often use this web browser:

  • Google Chrome.

    Votes: 17 70.8%
  • Microsoft Edge.

    Votes: 2 8.3%
  • Mozilla Firefox.

    Votes: 3 12.5%
  • Something else.

    Votes: 2 8.3%

Over several months in 2024 I will be conducting a series of polls of the CompTIA Instructor Network (CIN) Community. Participation is completely voluntary and based on the assumption that respondents are Instructors (i.e. members of CIN). My goal in conducting these polls is to compile data about how Instructors work. Each poll will have a simple question and be conducted over 14 days. At the end of each month, I will disclose the poll results to the CIN Community. From time to time, I will publish summaries containing data gathered in the series.

9.3.9 Lab - wrong answer

Q1 asks for the IP address of Support's current default gateway
As you see, the answer should be 192.168.0.46

1721971795181.png

However, the answer that they want is 192.168.0.5.
I was like, where did that came from? LOL

Using TestOut for Network+ Labs is just frustrating.
I don't think I'll recommend using this platform to my classes.

  • Question
Do you receive CEU's for completing the CertMaster Perform TTT labs?

I was in the training session that started on June 20 and was curious about this. We were given access to the CertMaster Perform labs. Do we receive any CEU's for completing the labs? Also are they a part of the requirement for the voucher?

Have a great weekend and thank you. :)
Patrick.

Question - TestOut Lab 8.3.6 SNMP

In the TestOut Network+ laboratory 8.3.6 - Quiz Question #2, it asks:
What types of network interface data were reported to the management system over SNMP?

I happen to know the answer to the question - Utilization and Discards - coming from CCNA.
However, need guidance on how to show it to the students via the OpenNMS from the TestOut Lab.
Kindly advise. Thanks!

5.1.10 Lab: Cisco Troubleshooting Tools - wrong answer Q#8

Good day! Has anyone done the lab re: 5.1.10 Lab: Cisco Troubleshooting Tools from TestOut Labs for Network+?

One of the tasks says "Test the connection from SFO router to Wrk1".
As you can see in the screenshot, the ping is successful.

1720828631832.png

So we answer the question:

1720828692169.png

But when we check the answers, it will say that we answered it wrong.
1720828722927.png

Per checking, the answer that it is looking for is 0 (zero). What???

1720828783256.png

I hope someone from CompTIA and/or TestOut can fix this erratum.

6.4.10 Lab - Question 3

Good day!

Just like to share the experience re: TestOut Lab 6.4.10 > Question 3 is confusing.

It asks, which IP address is assigned to the CorpNet Bldg A router?

1721282603518.png

However, when you check the exhibit there's CorpNet router and a Bldg A router.
1721282586352.png

Many students answer based on the CorpNet router whereas, the question is actually asking for the Bldg A.

I've sent the feedback for TestOut / CompTIA to rewrite the question to just Bldg A router, instead of CorpNet Bldg A router.

9.3.8 Lab - Wrong answers

Good day!

Just sharing with you another finding from the TestOut Network+ laboratory.

Q1 asks for the MAC address of the Ethernet card in Office 2.
Notice that none of the options are correct.

Q3 asks for the MAC address of the Ethernet card in ITAdmin.
Notice that none of the options are correct.

I've already reported this using the report link:

  • Question
Student question stumped the class, unable to drive the nail home for this question.

In CompTIA Network+ N10-008 Student Guide, Pg. 163. or Instructor Guide Pg. 168.
Question 5 states:
5. A company has eight networks, using the subnet addresses 192.168.0.0/24,
192.168.1.0/24 … 192.168.7.0/24. What network prefix and subnet mask can be used to summarize a
supernet route to these networks?

Answer:
It takes 3 bits to summarize eight networks (23 = 8). Subtracting 3 bits from the existing network
mask makes the supernet network prefix /21. The third octet of the mask will use 5 bits, which is
248 in decimal (25 = 248), so the full mask is 255.255.248.0.

This class is unable to grasp this concept, & I am running out of ways to explain & time to stay on track to finish class where I need to for the day. Any help explaining is greatly appreciated.

  • Question
How to upgrade from the Network+ (N10-008) to Network+ (N10-009)?

We're trying to figure out how to upgrade and use the new Network+ (N10-009). Do we need to buy a new Network+ (N10-009) product for this? Or can CompTIA upgrade our current Network+ (N10-008)?

Also, it seems that the credentials to the https://learn.comptia.org/ are not working for the new platform https://platform.comptia.org. When try to create a new account, there is a need of Access key, which probably will come with new purchase? the old access key does not work.

Some guidance from experts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Question
Spanish Speaking Instructor and Spanish Learning Materials

Hi Everyone,

I think I know the answer to my second question, but just in case I am making incorrect assumptions, let me go ahead and ask: Are the CompTIA Security + Course Materials available in Spanish?

As for the first question, is there any Instructor on the Forum whose first language is Spanish? Trying to solve a challenge for a client in Equador.

Thanks Everyone!

Happy Friday.

CIN The Pulse - If a bad organizational culture eats ethics for breakfast, then will AI steal your lunch money?

OK! Our next session of The Pulse is coming up on Thursday July 25th. It’s time to get past the FUD and take a data-driven look at what AI is doing for us, to us, and with us. Join CompTIA’s Chief Technology Evangelist, Dr. James Stanger, to learn about research CompTIA has completed about recent AI trends. He will discuss the impact of current AI usage, and the myriad meanings of the term, “AI.” Are in an era of Copilot co-dependence, or are we in an era of AI enhanced, hyper-human creativity and interaction? James will also discuss case studies of how AI may be affecting job roles and work flows.

AI now creates the music we hear and the things we see. We’ve seen what happens when we drop tech and automation into a problematic culture. What happens when drop AI into the mix? Will it create chaos or cultural guardrails? Join James to learn more about the impacts of our current and future use of AI.
