Teaching Opportunities during AY 2024-2025

Hi Everyone-

IESEG School of Management will be starting a Masters in Cybersecurity Management in Sept 2024. While the courses aren't cert prep per se, they are aligned with certification and we expect the students to earn two certs. Therefore, I will probably be needing some certified instructors for a few courses (e.g., Pen Testing).

So, if you might be interested in teaching for us (in English) in Lille, France, please touch base with me at EMEACon or send me your CV at [email protected]. As we are AACSB accredited, our instructors must meet AQ requirements (PhD active in research or Masters and active practitioner). For vacataire/adjunct positions, we would probably be most interested in folks from the BeNeLux and possibly UK&I community (i.e., commuting distance). For visiting positions (intensive - 16h over 4 days), other regions could work.

Hoping to meet some of you at EMEACon.

Cyber Event for Elementary Age Kids

Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone has any great ideas of what I might be able to do with elementary aged kids at an community event. I am looking for a quick 5-7 minute activity that the kids can do and learn a bit about cyber security. Previously I have had them make a cipher wheel and learn how to use it. I like the ability for them to take something physical home too. I am trying to also go low tech as it is an outdoor event and rather not have to deal with power or weather.

thanks.

Upcoming CompTIA Certification Launches and CIN Webinars

So, there is a lot of talk about when the next TTT will be and when the certification launches. I want to work on getting product calendar posted in CIN Resources, however that will take some time. In the meantime, I wanted to post the upcoming launches and, therefore, the upcoming TTT series. Just remember these are approximate and depend on product development schedules, but this will give you a good idea of target launches.

Security+ SY0-701: Certification launches November 2023 (there will be a TTT series starting mid-October. More info coming soon!)
DataX DY0-001: Certification launches Q1 2024 (CIN Sneak Peek November 2023)
Network+ N10-009: Certification Launch Q2 2024 (CIN Sneak Peek late Q1 2024)

The following certifications will all be coming out the second half of 2024, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available
CloudNetX
PenTest+
SecurityX

I hope this helps as far as an outlook of what to look forward to in 2024! It will be a busy year!! Be sure to check back to the community for more updates!

  • Question
Practice questions for an A+ exams 220-1101/1102

Does anyone have a good list of questions to use in a classroom for a A+ 220-1101/1102 practice tests?
I do use the questions at the end of each chapter of the CertMaster Learn, but want to be able to printout and use to see how the students are learning.

  • Question
Continuing Education

Does completing the Train the Trainer for the new version of a Certification cover Continuing Education requirements? I have a CISSP but the Comptia continuing education seems much more difficult to understand how to meet requirements. I am a full time IT Professional and I also teach college classes Comptia Security +, Palo Alto EDU 210, and coming soon Cisco Cyber Ops.

One CIN human with multiple email addresses

Is it possible for one CIN member to be recognized by multiple email addresses? I originally became a CIN member using my personal Gmail account. I then later start attending TTT series via my day job's email. Now I have an adjunct teaching position and I'd like to use that (edu) email as well. Is there anyway to resolve these emails to a single CIN account, or do I need to make one CIN account for each email address?

Thanks much,

  • Question
Purchasing Vouchers For Government or Non-Profit Orgs

Hello All I'm not entirely sure if this is really the right platform to ask this question, but I figured most of us on here are Instructors and have a need to purchase vouchers for exams. Working for Government or Non-Profits creates minor headaches when it comes to acquiring products or services for the first time. You need x number of quote (unless sole provider) and must accept tax exemption etc.
That all said, I recently mounted all my CompTIA Certs on my office wall, which has inspired a bunch of my team to pursue certifications of their own. I can assist with tutoring them but I need to look at purchasing the vouchers etc.
Are there specific vendors that cater for vouchers or do they all come direct from CompTIA?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • Question
High School Cybersecurity Students going for Security+

Hi everyone,

I currently teach a full-year (182 school days, 40 minutes per day) class in Cybersecurity at my high school. The students are doing a course for college credit from a university. The course as it exists currently is therefore not aligned with Security+, but we're hoping to have some students who want to go for the certification do so.

There is of course some intersection, my university-level course does cover malware, threat assessment, security policies, I do some linux, etc. but I have concerns for how the students will do. I can have them practice material from CompTIA but I know I'll be very pressed for time if I'm covering the college-credit course essentials and also focusing on Security+.

Does anyone have specific experience along these lines? High schoolers going for Security+ and in a course that doesn't 100% focus on that exam specifically?

Thanks in advance!

CySA+ TTT voucher

Hello everyone,

When is the voucher expected to arrive?

Because @Stephen Schneiter didn't mention anything about the voucher's arrival during the sessions currently DataSys+.

The expected date for the voucher to arrive, and it has been a month since the end of CySA+ TTT series. I thought it was faster than before.

Linux Malware

I downloaded a malware binary for Linux lately and unpacked it. Tried to run it as root, but it didn't work. Googled for 2 hours and found out that instead of /usr/local/bin, the malware unpacked to /usr/bin, for which it doesn't have any write permissions. I found a patched .configure and .make file on some Chinese forum, recompiled and re-ran it, but the malware said it needed the cmalw-lib2.0 library, which ships with CentOS but not Ubuntu. Googled for hours again and found an instruction to build a .deb package from source and installed it. The malware finally started, wrote some logs, wrote a core dump, and crashed. After 1 hour of going through the logs I discovered the malware assumed an underlying ext4 filesystem and tried to call its disk encryption API (which is deprecated under the btrfs filesystem I use) - the kernel noticed and made the partition read-only to the process. So I got fed up, opened the sources, grep'ed the Bitcoin wallet and sent $5 out of pity.

And this is the typical Linux malware experience.
Pretty scary if you ask me...
