  • Question
Can I use Prof.Mark Ciampa videos presented during CIN SY0-501 TTT series in my Security+ class?

Hi,

I have a question. I am teaching Security+ SY0-601. I am using Prof. Mark Ciampa's textbook. I have his videos presented during the CIN SY0-501 TTT series several years ago. Unfortunately the On24 links for that series do not work any more. I found some of his videos still relevant to the current exam and go along with his textbook. I think they will be beneficial to my students, because we are using his book. Can I use his videos in my class? Of course I will give a full credit to his work and CIN. If it is ok to use these videos, I will edit them so that they are short and to the point (I will get rid of chat question for example).

Thanks,
Sukanya

Question of the Week #11 - Answer

Happy Friday everyone! Great answers/responses shared by our CIN members this week, thank you to those who participated!

Our question this week is focused on the benefits of the "Lessons" Tab in CertMaster Learn. Have a great weekend!🌴

Question:
In CertMaster Learn, how can the Student/Learner use the "Lessons" tab to their benefit?

Answer:

The Lesson’s Tab has loads of benefits including the ability to view and rank confidence levels and allowing Students to make customizations within their course.

View and Rank Confidence levels:

The Table of Contents provides users to see an overview of how they ranked their confidence levels so far in the course. The Table of Contents can be filtered by specific Confidence Levels, lessons, or student customization.

The Lesson’s Tab has another section named “Confidence Levels” that shows the students their Lessons categorized specifically by their confidence levels.

There are 3 Confidence levels: High, Medium, and Low Confidence. Categories are chosen by the Student as they progress through the course. Students must rank their confidence levels before continuing through the lesson.

These Confidence Levels allow the Student to see where they ranked their confidence levels throughout their learning and to see areas that may require more studying.

Student Customization:

Students can also customize their course lessons by use of Notes, Bookmarks, and Highlights. Notes are personalized by the student and will be specific to the current lesson page the note was made. Bookmarks will save a specific lesson page for later use. Highlights are important sections of text that can be found at a later time.

All these customizations can be found using the Notes, Bookmarks, and Highlights categories at the top of the page.

These are just some of the benefits that CertMaster Learn has to offer. What other benefits have you found using the platform?

A+ Train-the-Trainer

Team, we've had an excellent start with the A+ TTT! A+ has always been one of my favorite certifications, as it covers a wide range of IT topics. This certification allows a future IT professional to decide what IT career to pursue. As a CISSP, I still enjoy the contents of A+ and what this cert has to offer.

Sit back and enjoy all that A+ has to offer.! See you in class...(y)

Sources Material for write SIEM, IPS, IDS and others devices Rules

Hi buddy / mates

In recent times cybersecurity companies are recruiting people with domain and skills in writing rules for SIEMs, IDS, IPS and others. The writing of these rules, on the one hand, helps to avoid false positives, good reading of log messages to better understand events on the network and, on the other hand, to comply with corporate internal policies.
To further emphasize, I believe it is a new skill for Cyber Security Analyst (BlueTeam).

I believe that compTIA could focus on this in their certifications such as: A+, Net+, Sec+, CySA+, Data+

Are there any sources of information, training or guides that would help an analyst to have the skill to write rules on security devices?

Question of the Week #11

Happy Monday everyone! It's that time of week again... QUESTION OF THE WEEK! We look forward to your answers and/or feedback and thanks as always for humoring us 😊

Question:
In CertMaster Learn, how can the Student/Learner use the "Lessons" tab to their benefit?

HINT: There are multiple right answers and quite a bit you can do here so don't be shy, thanks again and have a great week!

HTI+ Sadly No Longer Live

Too bad the HTI+ (Home Technology Integrator) certification is no longer available. See:

Passed!

After having it on my radar for several years, I finally passed the CASP+ this weekend. Along with it, I also got the CSAE and CSIE stackable certifications.

I thought the exam was challenging but fair. I had one PBQ and one hand-on VM exercise. Due to the fact that the exam was pass/fail, I have no idea if I passed it easily or if I barely made it. But I guess what they say is true. The guy who graduates last in medical school is still called Doctor.

I still need the Linux+, Data+, and CTT+ to complete the entire set.

Interpretation Logs and management for CySA+, Network+, Penetration+

Hi mates
I would like to suggest that CompTIA, as a neutral certificate provider, introduce more in-depth and detailed information on how to interpret event logs from different sources and manage them, for example: network devices, OS, Apps, among others.
Events Logs have their lifecycle. CompTIA, I suggest you put more details on the subject in the study guides and consequently in the exams.
This would provide a more solid foundation for network analysts and engineers.

There is a lot of misinterpretation of log messages by Analysts and Network Engineers and this misinterpretation can result in delay in accurate collection of information or poor incident response

I had never seen a book or guide that went into depth about interpreting and detailing message logs.
example: How does a log message present itself when it is a brute force in windows authentication, in FTP, SSH protocols? or even on a Cisco Router, Switch?
another example: privilege escalation on linux account. how look like? mensage log

Guys what your view point about?

Question of the Week #10 - Answer

It's that time of week everyone, here's your answer for this week's question, and have a great weekend!

Question:
In CertMaster Learn, how does the Learning Plan benefit the Student User's course progress?

Answer:
The Learning Plan presents the course material in a sequential format throughout the course, and lessons are not only presented in order but also the corresponding activities such as Labs (if applicable), Practice Questions, etc.

Students can also enter the course on any given day and choose the “Study Task” button which will take them right back to the point they left on the previous login.

Also, Students will be able to use the “Learning Plan Progress” bar as well as the “Today’s Knowledge Goal” section to help understand how many concepts or topics they will need to study for that give day. The Learning Plan Progress and Today’s Knowledge Goal sections will automatically update each day, and will adjust accordingly if no progress has been made over a given period of time.

At any time, the students can also check their “Strengths and Weaknesses” from the left side margin while in the learning tool. This will capture any areas where confidence levels were marked (this is a required activity during ALL lessons, see visual on attachment), and will also showcase areas where more attention may be needed. Lastly, this will also give the students a barometer of when they are “Exam-ready” by showcasing their overall progress from Beginner to Expert level of knowledge. This will continue to build as ALL activities within the course are completed. Best practice is that we recommend they reach at least the notch between proficient and advanced before taking their certification exam.

Please see the attachment here as well for visual representation of each concept.

Instructor Certification and resources

Background- I have been selected to become one of ten instructors for the US Army JROTC Cyber Instructor program. The 4 year curriculum will cover concepts such as A+ for year 1, Network+ for year 2, etc. I was curious if there was relevant training and certification that will "certify" me to teach COMPTIA certification subjects. Thanks in advance.

PS. I have written exam questions for ISC2 and COMPTIA and hold a few certifications- CISSP,CISA,CASP+, GSEC, Security+, CYSA+.
