*** 701 PASSED ***

Team, I sat and passed the new 701 Security+ exam. Very nice exam! I only used TestOut, which I had access to via TTT. TestOut covers all and beyond with this exam. I thought the PBQs were fair and fun to do. I had plenty of time to answer the multiple-choice questions, review flagged questions, tackle the PBQs and review them.

As long as you know the testing objectives, you should be good to go! I hope this helps those that are pursuing this exam.

Assisted Lab: Using Virtualization Private Switch and External Switch procedure Mismatch

After Configuring the Private Switch immediately the procedure tells you to configure an External Switch and then you are instructed to go to the Virtual Machine and do IP config command. When command is done it does not show any IP address yet the following instruction tells you to put an IP address that you find. Then later instructions flow to change the Network Adapter based on the specified IP Addresses. and then tells you that the IP address will not show up, later to change to external switch. so confusing for someone. Did you meet the same challenge.

However based on My experience in working with Virtual Machines, I knew what was going on and managed to work around.

Instructors Needed in the Maryland (USA) Area

QUANTUM INTRINSIX is looking for instructors (USA only) that can teach various CompTIA courses. It is preferred that the instructors reside near the Maryland / DC / VA area. However, QUANTUM INTRINSIX would be willing to work with instructors that can deliver remotely. The instructor would be a 1099 contractor. If you are interested, please send a private message to us via Inbox.

Prepping Students for Tech Roles (CompTIA Volley)

Last year I was able to see Brad Chamberlain from Maricopa High School in Arizona present at ACTE CareerTech Vision 2023 in Las Vegas. Brad was part of a panel of presenters talking about instructional delivery methodologies for students. Brad has unique approach to helping students get ready for entering the workforce buy running a student-led business called 24PinTech where students have the opportunity to gain real world expereince troubleshooting and servicing computers.

Networking Concepts in Security+

So, here is a question for those that teach Security+ before Network+. How do you handle networking concepts that are included in Security+ objectives? Do you just cover them as you come across them, or do you offer a basic networking modular component as an add on to Security+? Thanks in advance! Inquiring minds want to know! ?

Viewing Exam PBQs in the Pearson Vue Tool

When taking a CompTIA certification exam using the Pearson Vue exam platform, does anyone recall whether you must CLOSE the scenario window to see the entire PBQ?
A student is asking and I don't recall precisely.
(In contrast, you MUST close the scenario window in CertMaster.)

Anyone else encountering 701 PPT missing information

I am delivering a 701 course and I have noticed periodically the PPT Instructor slides are missing some content information when compared to the student guide.

I have included one example but there are others, lesson 10 is the one example I included where the PowerPoint ends with a Wi-Fi reference but the student guide ends lesson 10 with Bluetooth and NFC which are not shown in the PowerPoint. I don't recall this being an issue with 601 slides missing content shown in the student guide for the same lesson.

CompTIA Roadmap

Hi All. Happy New Year. I was looking for information including dates on the transition from ITF to Tech+ and for details of any update for Network+. Is there one place I can find a roadmap for CompTIA courses with these and other course information and any associated Train the Trainer sessions? I can see that some of this stuff was announced at the CompTIA summit last year which I wasn't able to attend. Thanks in advance.

Training center looking for a virtual CASP+ instructor for next week

I had a client ask me if I could teach a virtual CASP+ class next week. Apparently, they had an instructor booked but he backed out at the last minute.

If you have the CASP+ cert and can teach a virtual class next week, you can use the contact information below. Do not contact me or ask me questions about the assignment because I don't know much more about it than what I've already mentioned. I had to pass because I'm already teaching next week.

Seemingly unauthorized resellers: how do they do it?

I've been talking to my usual CompTIA rep (aka "business development manager") via email and they were stimied by this one.

There's CompTIA exam voucher resellers who offer certification vouchers in ways that seem hard to compete with. These folks do not appear on CompTIA's registered partner list. Their websites also don't mention a parent company which could be on the list. What's more, their websites don't actually much of anything about the company! No registration information, no address.

Your initial thought might be "scammers", but supposedly plenty of folks on Reddit and elsewhere report getting their vouchers just fine. So payments are processed and working vouchers are delivered and used.

One example are voucherplex.com. They offer most vouchers at more than the usual 20% CompTIA partner discount. This might mean that they have a higher partner tier and thus get more discounts. But then why are they not on the partner list?

Another example is supervoucher.com. They are an even more interesting case! They offer exam vouchers with differing lifetimes, offering higher discounts for shorter lifetime vouchers. They also offer vouchers on a global level, so not just US/CA, but also UK, EU, Emerging markets etc, which should be impossible. I guess Supervoucher buy vouchers in bulk every month, selling them FIFO (first in first out) and then selling left-overs at reduced prices while they're almost expiring.

But again... they're not on the partner list, while they make claims about such status. They also don't list a parent company. No nothing.

Both companies, after some sleuthing, appear to be in Canada. One in Ontario, the other in Toronto.

I'm very curious about your insights... How the heck are companies that appear to not be registered partners buying vouchers in bulk? And how is one of them buying vouchers across the globe, instead of only in their own market?

CYSA 003 Lab

Thank you to CompTIA for creating a great lab for students which really make them understand better the practical hands on and theory part of the book. Those days we used to show it manually going to certain site but nowadays it's all in lab with explanation which the students understand better the course.
I make sure my students complete the lab before sit for the exam. Which will be very helpful when sitting for exam.
