Objectives cross-reference for PT0-001 and 002

In case anybody's interested, I've completed a cross-reference of the PT0-001 and PT0-002 objectives.

The table shows which objectives were dropped, which were added, which were retained/moved. It's not 100% accurate, but good enough if you'd like to prepare for 002, with 001-books.

-> https://www.kilala.nl/index.php?id=2528

I mean, I know that we as trainers get a licensed document that does a better job at explaining the differences... but we can hardly share that, right? ;) This doc was made the hard way, literally cross-matching both objective documents. Hence why I may have made a few mistakes.

SY0-601 Certmaster Performance Based Questions

Hi All,

New here and first post. I have just been looking at the PBQ in Certmaster (20 of them) as something to offer to students to help better prepare them for the PBQ in the real exam. I have been shocked by the quality as it seems half the scenarios don't contain enough information to answer the questions posed. In addition the answers at times seem to be wrong. You cant change the login credentials for an Active Directory Security Group.

Has anyone else found the questions to be extremely poor? Can anyone suggest an alternative to Certmaster for examples of PBQ practice?

Many thanks

Jonathan

Sierra College - Ransomware Attack

Prior to "retiring" and moving to SoCal, I served in a full-time faculty role at Sierra College for 18 years teaching IT, cybersecurity and law related courses. During my tenure, I spent time strongly suggesting that the College's IT Department staff should be taking courses and obtaining certifications in order to keep their knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs in education speak) up to date. That never happened. Needless to say, I'm not at all surprised by the Sierra College - Ransomware news, hitting the College during finals week.

A comment quoted below from one of my former faculty colleagues on the faculty FaceBook site pretty much sums up my forecast:

"We were just talking about you yesterday saying, 'Steve said something like this would happen...'"

About 5 years ago, on behalf of the College, I prepared and submitted the paperwork associated with the College obtaining the DHS/NSA "Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense" (CAE2Y) designation. We did not achieve the designation because of my honest assessment of the College's cybersecurity policies and procedures. Last year, through a reapplication process, it did receive the designation. This of course has me questioning the value of this DHS/NSA designation.

CTT+ Virtual Classroom - Submitting Forms TK0-203

Hi Everybody,
Please, could I get a tip from you?
While completing the "Form-A" for the Virtual Classroom TK0-203, I stumble upon the "Witnesses"and the "Participant" part to be filled in.
Could the Participants (or learners) also be the witnesses completing the form? Or shall the "Witnesses" be a 3rd party body that isn't participating in the classroom?

And for the Form-B part, the "printed email replies" from the learner authorizing the view to CompTIA, shall they be a screenshot or a pdf conversion of the mails?

Thank you very much for the help.

Why Instructors Should Join Infragard (and Recommend Students do the Same)

Part of what we do is designed to make students better taxpayers. To succeed in this effort we need to help many of our students to have a stronger resume. A way to do that is to promote actions that will (1) increase their involvement in IT/cybersecurity-related groups, and (2) help them to network on a professional level. I recommend students consider joining Infragard. A simple reason is it presents opportunities to participate in activities like the one shown below:

INTERFACE- EDUCATION NETWORKING SOLUTIONS - HAWAII/SOCAL VIRTUAL CONFERENCE (NEW)
DATE:
May 20, 2021
TIME:
8:30 AM Hawaii Time/11:30 AM Pacific
COST: FREE, no cost for InfraGard members to attend INTERFACE on May 20, 2021. You can earn up to 7 CPE credits during day!
DETAILS: Seminar schedule here: https://f2fevents.com/event/hnl21/. The conference will have plenty of door prizes to give away, including Amazon Gift Cards and $500.

While it would have been nice to be able to attend in person, Virtual is a reasonable accommodation. All I have to do is dust off one of my Hawaiian Shirts.

Unannounced username change PearsonVue

I don't know exactly what happened, but PearsonVue have actually gone and **changed** my login-name for the CompTIA PearsonVue login. I never got an email about this, or anything.

Gave me a right fright just now, because I have the CASP+ beta in the morning. All of a sudden I couldn't login! They would simply not accept my username+password, even after changing the password.

Turns out that, yes, those &^%$# took my original username and stuck a "1" at the end. Without telling me. WAT? ?

All the security questions for the account also got reset. So I have no clue what happened here. Luckily I have retained my exam history and yes, tomorrow's beta is also still scheduled. Pfew.

Video Explaining Method for Handling CompTIA Exam

For the CySA+ Academic class I'm teaching this semester, I recorded a presentation I gave today that gives my recommendations on (1) time management, and (2) how to guess intelligently when you have no idea what the answer is. You may want to look at it and potentially share the ideas I present to your students. The class announcement I made is below and provides links to the presentation content.

Steve

Announcement:

Today's presentation that relates specifically to "how to approach the CompTIA CySA+ certification was recorded. You can access the recording by clicking HERE. For those unable to attend, it became necessary to move the Zoom room over to one where I could capture the session by recording it. While viewing the video you will be asked to pause the video for 10 minutes while you take Quiz A. You can download Quiz A and other documents by accessing the PDF version of the PowerPoint slides available by clicking HERE. Another helpful link where I'll update my own progress towards passing the new CySA+ certification is my Blog.

Successful content delivery systems

Which content delivery systems have your students had A+ certification success with?

Just started at an organization that has TestOut, CertMaster (not sure which one) & the Mike Meyers book. I'm thinking about trying to get them to supplement with MeasureUp, or Ucertify, or Cisco's IT Fundamentals, or either Cengage's MindTap for CompTIA A+ Guide to IT Technical Support, 10th Edition, or just the book as a standalone PDF. The students are economically disadvantaged, including homeless youths up to about age 24 who have recently received a high school or an equivalency diploma. The goal is for them to be A+ certified within 22 months, possibly receiving an intermediate cert like CompTia's ITF or a Microsoft MTA cert as prep for the A+ if it will help them attain the A+.

Do you use any of these resources, or have your students had success with something else?

Instructor-led delivery enquiry using Certmaster Learn/Labs

I'm looking to deliver a 5 day instructor-led Sec+ course and am wondering if anyone has done this using the Certmaster Learn together with the Certmaster Labs, as opposed to the traditional 'death by PowerPoint' with supporting activities as relevant.

I'd like to understand whether anyone has delivered the course using 'only' the Certmaster materials, or whether people have successfully integrated the slide presentation content with the Certmaster learning/labs packages. If it's the latter, sight of an example/recommended training schedule would be very useful!

Pearson Vue Revoked Exam

Hi all

Does anyone know what the Appeals Process, for the Online Proctored exams is?
I had an awful experience on Monday. I have taken several exams online in the past but what happened on Monday was completely unacceptable.

I was scheduled to take the TK0-201 exam on Monday. Soon after starting the exam, I scratched below my knee, which meant that my head moved slightly down on the Camera, but NOT away from the webcam view. This must have been for about 1 second or 2. I immediately got a message from the proctor who said “You have moved from webcam view I’m now revoking the exam”. The exam was immediately terminated just like that within 5 Minutes of starting the exam. I then received the email below soon after

“Dear xx,
Thank you for testing with Pearson VUE.
During your recent exam, it was observed and reported that you left the webcam view. In an effort to remind you of this policy, we issued an initial warning to you during your exam. After witnessing this behaviour continue, a supervisor was consulted, who also observed the behaviour. Due to this policy violation, we were unable to continue your testing experience and had to revoke your exam session. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. In order to track and resolve this situation, I have opened the following case xxxxxx, on your behalf. We do encourage you to review the OP testing policies page to ensure you familiarize yourself with all rules and regulations for future exams. If you have any questions, please contact us. You may visit the link https://home.pearsonvue.com/Contact-Us.aspx to locate your program & country-specific contact details.
Thank you,
Xxx
Customer Support Specialist
Pearson VU”

The shocking thing about all this is that my head and eyes were still on the Camera, I never received any warning, and the exam was just terminated. Over the past few days I have email and called requesting that they review the recording of the session and send me a copy of it as I’m 100% sure that I did not move away from the camera but all this has fallen on deaf ears. I’ve spent a lot of time calling the support centre with no progress. I would hate for any of my students to go through such a situation considering the time and amount of money spent on the exam.

How does one proceed in such a situation? It is a lot of money to lose just like.

Classroom setup with Student Upload vs Classroom Setup with Access Keys

Greetings and Salutations,

I'm purchasing CertMaster Learn for the A+ 220-1001 and I have the option to choose Student Upload or Access Keys.

Is there one that is more beneficial than the other? Lastly, is there a limit of setups with either option? I'm going to be hosting instructor - led training and remote training.

Thanks...

Thoughts on CompTIA's Security+ Learning Content

I'm interested in the thoughts of others relative to CompTIA's content (Official Student Guide and Certmaster Labs). I'm finding the content of remarkable quality, and I'm planning to utilize these products for both contract and academic courses that I'll be teaching in the future. Early on in my teaching career, I made the mistake of signing on to write a textbook on IIS4.0. What I found is because technology changes so quickly, the shelf life of learning content is extremely short. I think that goes a long way towards why we are seeing a reduction of choices in learning content.

One of the things I'm working on for teaching later this summer is adapting this content (Official Student Guide and Certmaster Labs) for the Canvas LMS that we use here in the California Community College system. I'm attempting to create a loose association of instructors to work together to create additional learning content (e.g. quizzes, discussions, projects, etc.) that we can share and utilize for our classes. If you have an interest in participating, email me at [email protected].
