A Funny Thing

So I was sitting in my chair reviewing the A+ TTT for Session Five, and of course, treated to my own wondrous and melodious voice and picture of me. BTW - Alan is doing a great job, so if you're not watching them, you need to start!

My oldest (23) comes in, looks at my screen, "So, whatcha watching - is that a recording?"

Without missing a beat, I say, "No kiddo, it's live."

I love my daughter. She's a genius programmer, making that crazy money in software development. Degree in CS and Math. Knows about five languages and can speak Ansible natively. And apparently, she had a tough day dredging through tickets.

But...

She figured it out after a minute. Had a chuckle - went on to play Mass Effect.

A day in the life in the Butler household. Good times.

1001 and 1002 Retirement

Once again I feel we're being done over here.
I have just got my key for my 1101 and 1102 Instructor manuals.
I am running 1001 this week and we've just been talking about the exams. I have just seen that the 1000 series will be retired in October 2022, giving anyone currently studying it only 6 months to complete both courses and both exams.
Why such a short time? If they fail an exam there will be limited time to resit it. They can't get time off work to attend courses at the best of times and now they've got to cram both into 6 months???
Net+ was updated in Sept 21. That exam retires June 30th 2022, 9 months later so why is A+ different?

VR Training

VR since its inception has been used for training. Recently, VR has started to become mainstream ever since Meta's metaverse goals. I was wondering, who feels as I do that its about time that VR is used in the IT industry. The closest was the Cisco CCIE Virtual Reality Experience that was an internal demo. I believe now that CompTIA is serious about their own training materials, it is ripe open for CompTIA to be first.

CertMaster Learn + Labs for CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner

We are considering CASP+ for my community college. Not part of our regular cirriculum but an advanced single class we'd offer to students, alumni, as well as others interested in taking the CASP test. Just wondering if anybody has feedback on the CertMaster Learn + Labs for CASP? If so, do you feel it helped you and/or your students prepare for and pass the CASP+ exam?

Thanks!

John

Question of the Week and GIVEAWAY

Happy Monday Everyone! I know you are all excited for our Question of the Week, and this week we are going to try something… a little different

We know you have heard a lot from us, but we want to hear from YOU! Anything goes, whether it's a future topic you'd like us to cover or a question you have that is relevant to you.

To make things a bit more exciting, we will be doing a Random Giveaway drawing for all those who have participated sometime this week. EVERY submission will be included into our giveaway (i.e., if you have 2 submissions, you get 2 entries).

We will draw multiple names, and winners will have their choice of some FREE content (voucher, e-learning, eBooks, etc.) or some very cool “CIN Swag” (thanks Rick Butler)!

So who wants to start us off with a QUESTION? Leave your questions/topics in the comments below. Good Luck!!

Clear explaination about CompTIA Expert Level

Mates, Friends

Please make me clear:

I know that to be an Cybersecurity CompTIA Expert Level need to pass for those path:

CompTIA Security Infrastructure Expert
(Security+ / CySA+ / PenTest+ / CASP+)
or
CompTIA Security Analytics Expert
(Security+ / CySA+ / CASP+)

My question is: What is the expiry date for Expert level once a candidate achieves the goal? and

my other point to be clear for example: someone passed Security+ after 4 years, CySA+ and then 3 years passed Casp+ . Can this one be seen like an Expert Level even one of certification not updated?

Best regards

Question of the Week #12 - Answer

HAPPY FRIDAY! Thank you for all the great feedback and activity from this weeks question. We saw some new respondants, and as always some great answers!

Our question this week is focused on the PBQs within our CertMaster Learn platform!

Question:
In CertMaster Learn, what are PBQs and how are they used by the Student/Learner?

Answer:

Performance-based Questions
(PBQs) are basic interactives for playing and performing generalized learned concepts. PBQs provide a more practical application of knowledge, provides learning spacing, and prepares for similar performance-based questions on an actual exam.

Students/Learners will be reported on the total Time Taken to complete the activity, and the Highest Grade will be reported. Reports can be found in the "PBQs" Tab.

Instructors and Supervisors will be able to view this reporting directly from the Boost Dashboard.

Thank you for the great responses from this week! Be sure to check back on Monday for next weeks question. Have a great weekend!

mnemonics

From the TTT, I learned this cool mnemonic "I Eat Three Eggs In Virginia Daily"
  1. Identify the problem
  2. Establish a theory
  3. Test the theory
  4. Establish plan of action
  5. Implement the solution
  6. Verify full system functionality
  7. Document the findings
Thanks to LarryG for sharing!
I'll probably change Virginia to Victoria, for my end. haha!

What other mnemonics do you use in your class?

SSD question during TTT

During TTT, I got caught by this question

3. A solid-state drive (SSD) attached to an M.2 port must be using the non-volatile memory host controller interface specification (NVMHCI) or NVM Express (NVMe).
A.True
B.False

I answered True. The correct answer is False.

After a few mins of pondering, I realized that the statement says "must be using ...."
M.2 SSD can either be NVME or SATA. Now, i understand where I got it wrong.

Searching for remote associate faculty

Butte College is looking for a California associate ICT faculty to teach 1-2 courses per semester of Cyber Security courses: Sec+, Pentest+, CASP+. OR capable of teaching A+, Net+, Server+, and/or MS Hybrid infrastructure. All are approved for asynchronous online modality. Possibility of full-time in the not too distant future.

Completed Data+ Certification after TTT

Greetings instructors, I have completed the TTT and certification today!
If others have taken this certification, do hope to hear of your feedback please.
If there is any requirement to do training , please do inform me.
Will be glad to do.
All the best to all who will be taking the certification.

Question of the Week #12

Happy Monday, Everyone! Why not start the week off with... QUESTION OF THE WEEK! Who's got the answer?

Question:
In CertMaster Learn, what are PBQs and how are they used by the Student/Learner?

There are multiple answers for this one so we are excited to hear what you come up with!

Cert expiration extended?

I passed my Security+ last week (got it done the last day before the voucher expired!), and, as expected, received the emails that my A+, Net+, and Sec+ certifications were all renewed. The interesting thing is that all three gave an expiration date in 2027, which is 5 years instead of the usual 3. Has the cert validity time frame been extended? Typically, it's only 3 years, and the website still says 3 years as well. I retake the exams with every iteration anyway, but I'd love to know if the time frame is shifting.
