Instructor

Information Systems of Maryland (ISM), LLC is seeking a CompTIA Instructor with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our growing team. ISM is a technology consulting firm that specializes in providing small, medium, large and public sector organizations with technology project solutions, security solutions and human capital services. To meet the increasing needs of our organization we are seeking an CompTIA Instructor that wants to take part in our success and become a key member of the company. We offer an exceptional compensation package and fast-tracked opportunity for growth. If you would like to learn more about ISM, please visit us on the web at www.is-md.com

We have immediate needs to sponsor and/or get our own personnel classroom trained and exam ready for A+ CE, Network+ CE and Security+ (full course).

A class participant openly has learning challenges and CANNOT do these in a virtual format, so we're looking for private 1:1 training and/or classroom group-based training to accommodate this.

Past these immediate needs, our company is in discussions of acquiring an existing training school in Virginia, who currently offers training in a totally different industry, and would be an excellent opportunity for us to bolt on CompTIA training capabilities, among some others we have desires of doing. If you are an instructor/educationalist at heart and want to teach other subjects, upon the completion of said acquisition, we would be more than open and happy to acquaint and credential instructors for the other training industry currently served.

Passed Linux+ XK0-005

This has been quite the journey — one that started back in November!

Between work and life in general, I finally just said, "Screw it... I'm going to sit down with this material, digest it, take the exam, and pass it!"

Let me tell you — the Linux+ XK0-005 exam is not for the faint of heart. For someone with VERY LITTLE experience (aside from what’s needed for Network+), I was honestly surprised at how well I did.

I must've watched the Linux+ XK0-005 Train the Trainer videos at least three times, dissected the CompTIA objectives, used ChatGPT as my study partner (which sometimes went off the rails until I had to yell, “HEY! FOCUS ON…” 😄), and jumped in and out of several Linux VM distros just to get a feel for what I was getting myself into. In the end, I felt prepared and confident going into the exam.

On July 22, 2025, I sat for the Linux+ XK0-005 certification exam. I had 67 questions in total: 3 PBQs and 64 multiple-choice, with 90 minutes to complete them. I didn’t exactly take the test under ideal conditions either — I had a cortisone shot in my left knee the day before (7/21/25), and if you’ve ever experienced the flare-ups afterward... you know. I was gripping the desk during some parts of the test. But I muscled through it.

My strategy: I answered all the multiple-choice questions first, skipping the PBQs and marking them for review. Once I finished those, I had plenty of time left to circle back, carefully work through the PBQs, and then do a full review of the entire exam. I went question by question — reading, re-reading, marking answers, cross-referencing topics on my whiteboard, and analyzing each one thoroughly. I don’t usually recommend this strategy to my students (I’m a high school teacher who offers CompTIA certification classes), but in this case… it paid off. After completing the post-exam survey, the screen popped up: “CONGRATULATIONS — YOU PASSED!” 😂

If you’re new to Linux — stick with it. I did, and it paid off.

How can we get Institutional course access to CertMaster Security+??

Good Afternoon CIN,
We have had access to TestOut for ages. Then with all of the new course releases, we would receive them. With the new CertMaster Security+, we did not receive access. I tried calling CompTIA and was told to submit a help ticket. We used to have a CompTIA and a TestOut contact person, but now TestOut is no more. So my question is who can we reach out to. I have no idea who our sales person is. things have been great for so long that John Mongeon was our sales manager. We just found out about we have an issue because the new courses are starting up. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Corey Douglas

  • Question
CertMaster (1200 series) PBQ Practice

I see that CompTIA removed the PBQ practice questions in the CertMaster courses. Are the labs the sole replacement for that? I found that my students really enjoyed working with the practice PBQs in the 1100 series CertMaster.

Any alternatives out there that others are using with students?

  • Question
CompTIA CAS-005 Retake Possible After Missing Appointment Due To Internet?

Hello CINers,

I wanted to know if I could take the CompTIA SecurityX exam again. I used OnVUE to set my exam for July 4, 2025. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue with the exam because of an internet outage right before check-in, even though the system check was completed after my scheduled time. The same day I talked to Pearson VUE customer service and was told that a free retake was not available. Please assist @Stephen Schneiter
