Complete ITF+ Course In Canvas

I've packaged a course that is largely public domain (grant-funded), and with the exception of access to the Practice Labs virtual lab environment, free access to the content is available. All you need is to download the course export file (link below) and set up a free Canvas LMS teacher account, and you are good to go. This certification is foundational in nature and IMHO excellent for middle school and high school students as a starting point in this certification race track. The good news is students completing this course and certification will be well prepared for your A+, Network+, Security+, ...+ courses.

With Retirement Losing Certifications

In today's emails I received a bunch of them that were from CompTIA, each saying the same thing but identifying different certifications I hold:

Dear Steven Linthicum,

This is a friendly reminder that your CompTIA CySA+ ce certification will expire on Apr 21, 2026. While that is still a couple years away, it is important to think about how you might renew your certification so that you have ample time to prepare.

(ISC)2 has what they call "emeritus" status. I paid $375 and I keep the CISSP cert but you must be "retired".

Planning for automatic renewal of certifications achieved

Hello everyone, everything good?

I have CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ certifications and in view of the growing number of certifications (as I intend to obtain more), I need to carry out planning to minimize costs and efforts for future renewals. For example, as soon as I took Security+, A+ and Network+ were automatically renewed. I also intend to obtain Linux+ and Cloud+ certifications, but I saw on the official page that the latter only has A+, Network+ and Linux+ certifications, leaving Security+ out. However, I also learned that non-CompTIA certifications can also be used to earn CE credits to renew equivalent CompTIA certifications (as I have AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and Cisco CCNA and CyberOps).

In short, I intend to do the following:
  • Renew A+, Linux+ (which I'm still going to take) and Network+, by submitting to the Cloud+ exam;
  • Renew Security+, through Cisco CCNA CyberOps renewal (which I took almost 1 year after Security+).
If you can give me more tips and recommendations I would appreciate it! &;-D

When Can we Purchase Learn, Labs & Practice for the CompTIA Network+N10-009

Good morning,

I'm curious: on what day can we purchase CertMaster Learn, Labs & Practice before the launch date for Network+ N10-009?

Also, do we know the date for the TTT for the N10-009?

Thank you, and have a great week!

CompTIA Product Dev Team wants to hear from you

Do you have a crazy story about a server closet? Can you think of a time someone rolled a 1 on proper software management? Come sit by me!

The CompTIA product development team is looking for your anecdotes, examples, and real-life stories. If you have a tale of working the help desk, or the weird thing you found while running cable, we want to hear about it. We plan to use these stories within CompTIA training courseware, supporting instructional concepts, illustrating ideas, and of course grabbing learner attention.

If you want to share your story (or stories!), please complete this waiver first (the waiver must be completed or I cannot use your story) and email me ([email protected]) or share below.

Some of the topics we're looking for are:
  • When tech goes wrong -- situations of ignorance, when someone didn't understand what they were doing (could be an end user, could be a new professional)
  • Not properly securing personal data -- what happens when people don't take care of their personal data, or give it out willingly
  • Security tools in practice -- misuse of any cybersecurity tools (firewalls, NIDS/IPS, hardware, anything), trying to convey that the security tool isn't the only factor- a human has to properly use the tool
  • Wildest networking stories -- what have you found while dropping cable, what have you had to fix, where is the weirdest place you've seen for a server closet?
  • Networking specifications -- what happens when people don't pay attention to small wireless network specs? What can go wrong when you don't adhere to the network specifications?
  • Software management -- what happens when someone downloads software from a suspicious source? Could be an end user, could be a professional
  • Back it up -- perils of not backing up data, what has been lost? Personal stories (a college paper) and enterprise level are welcome

We will credit you either with your first name, last initial, and job role, or with "Anonymous, Job Role" as you prefer.

These stories will be used in one or more CompTIA training courses and may be edited for clarity and/or brevity.

Training and Tutoring Process Logging

Hello everyone,
I am new here. I am Ayomide Oluwaga, Head Coach and CIO at Techstartersafrica and I successfully trained 100+ Cybersecurity professionals last year alone.

I will be training 30 students from the 29th and would be documenting the processes I use in making these individuals into professionals. I feel, this process might be useful for a fellow instructor in here. You can choose to follow me to see how I do it or constructively criticise it to make ot better. I would be updating daily on Linkedin & Instagram. (Just make a search for my name or click Ayomide Oluwaga)

I look forward to bringing value into the community

First Time CertMaster Learn and Labs User

Good afternoon. I hope to use the Integrated CertMaster Learn and Labs for Project+ in my IT Project Management college course soon. I found TestOut last year and have integrated the LabSim courseware into a few of our IT courses. The students and faculty love it.

I am beginning my research into setting up CertMaster Learn and Labs and would appreciate any tips/tricks. At first glance, it doesn't appear as user-friendly or intuitive as TestOut LabSim.

Thanks, Chris

Instructor Needs Some Content Feedback

Hi Everyone, one of our Customer Success Managers, @Jayne Gubler had a question posted to her and she is looking for CIN to provide some feedback. Here is what Jayne past along.

An instructor asked me: "What positive and negative feedback are students saying regarding either CertMaster Learn & Labs or the former LabSim learning platform?"

We're dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of our platforms and value your insights on what aspects are proving effective and where there might be room for improvement. Could you share the feedback you've gathered from your learners regarding their experiences with these platforms?

Cloud+ Re-cert requirements

Hi everyone,

If I took and passed the AWS Solutions Architect Professional back in October 2023, can I use it to renew my Cloud+ certification if the Cloud+ is due to expire this summer? I can't figure out if I can use it to renew, or if I can only use a certification I passed from this year.

Thanks!

Boot Camps

Hi Everyone....I am being asked about a "boot camp" style delivery (5 days) with a test on the last day of class (Friday). It generates a couple of questions for me:

1. Does anyone have any experience with this type of delivery, and if so, what do you do differently than say a normal delivery?
2. Does anyone know the process of becoming a proctor for Pearson Vue to actually administer an exam event?
3. What is the success rate of your students on the first exam attempt?
4. Do the hours of classroom delivery change from a normal 8 hour day to longer, and if so, how much longer?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Meyers: Sec+ 601 retirement date pushed back to December 2024 instead of July

Changes are coming in 2024. I know I have talked a little about some of the upcoming updates to CompTIA Certifications, but let’s talk more details. First and very exciting news is that CompTIA’s Security+ SY0-601 was initially set to retire in July 2024, but CompTIA has delayed the retirement until December 2024. If you are studying for the SY0-601 exam, keep on it. This is great news for students, but don’t let it slow your studies, let it reinvigorate your studies. Refocus and set your schedule to get it completed, so you don’t have to change the objectives you are studying.

CompTIA's site still says July, but I doubt that Meyers is making this up. I just wish that CompTIA would add a confidentiality clause when they tell the big-time instructors news like this first until they can make these announcements themselves. Same thing happened a couple of years ago when Messer announced that they were pushing back the retirement date of A+ 1001/02.
