Good Stuff!!

I consider myself a Cyber Craftsman. So I take a method or device and turn it into something beautiful. Something that makes client, peers and professional step back say, "Dang! That made my day."

Pentestbox for Windows

If you can't run a Linux VM (e.g. Kali) to perform penetration testing in your environment, or if you have a class with limited Linux prerequisite knowledge, here's a great resource that allows you to run open source pen testing tools directly on Windows: https://pentestbox.org/

Career Exploration Tools

What career exploration tools do you use to introduce your students to IT careers?

Are the tools developed internally or do you subscribe to a vendor's solution?

What all are included in it? (e.g. Pre-recorded interviews with professionals, Virtual field trips, research students have to do, etc.)

We are building some career exploration tools for the CyberPrep courses. So trying to see what's out there.

Thanks,

Tazneen

General Description: The Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development at Hostos Community College has created an expanding “Tech Academy” program which currently comprises Cisco Networking, CompTIA, UIUX, and AutoCAD courses designed to get students certified for entry into the IT industry. The remote access virtual labs offered by Hostos Community College for both credit and non-credit courses facilitate instructor and student use of simulated learning environments from anywhere/anytime that a computer with internet access and a web browser is available. This relatively unique offering in CUNY ensures maximum availability of, and access to, a variety of real-world simulations in technology topics ranging from programming, basic computer support, networking and cybersecurity. Coordinated scheduling of lab use timeslots also ensures equitable access to the virtual learning environment.

The Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development at Hostos Community College is looking for a seasoned instructional professional who can deliver high-value technology training. What security-focused podcasts do you follow?

To keep on top of the ever-changing security landscape, I listen to security-focused podcasts in my downtime. It also allows me to bring in bleeding edge info and events into my Cybersecurity classes.
Does anyone have podcasts they listen to? Here are a list of those I follow:

Pre-ITF curriculum

We are researching the possibility of developing a new curriculum, targeting "all" students in 8th or 9th grade. The goal is for every student to take the course to understand IT and IT careers better. This new course may cover some very introductory ITF+ principles through the exciting lens of emerging technologies. We can also incorporate tech career exploration, healthy digital living, and hands-on fun with tech.

We are looking for some stakeholders who can help us shape this course. We will also be looking for some pilot schools to implement this curriculum in the fall of 2021.

Please contact me at [email protected], if you are interested and/or want more information.

I look forward to connecting with you.

Best Regards,

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - Trainers Sought

utc-profed-wordmark-primary-on-light.jpg

The Center for Professional Education, the primary outreach function of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is seeking qualified instructors to train ITF+, A+, Net+, and Sec+. Other certs will likely be added to the portfolio in time. Our intent is to have several instructors available as a cadre that we can draw on from time to time, based on need and availability.

These programs are not currently planned as a part of our academic degree program - but will be offered as non-credit/open-enrollment. Format for delivery can be virtual (Zoom) or in-person if candidates are within easy driving distance of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Programs will be taught using Certmaster Learn and associated support products.

UTC has been successful in getting ITF+ and A+ approved for Workforce Opportunity and Innovation Act (WIOA) funding through our local Workforce Investment Board. Our intent is to leverage these certifications as a career attainment programs for participants seeking to enter the IT workforce. Under this effort, we have already begun to identify potential employers to pair training participants with for potential employment pathways. To this end, we will place heavy emphasis on selecting instructors who work in the IT field and can provide coaching for career success as part of their instructional methodology. Prior experience teaching adult learners, of varying educational backgrounds, socio-economic status, and diversity will be a key consideration. A key driver in our programming will be to elevate minority and gender diversity in the IT field.

Future plans include the creation of certificate programs that may included bundling CompTIA certifications together to create specialized pathways for interested individuals. As valuable Subject Matter Experts, we would draw heavily on the wisdom of our instructional team to provide insight and inform this process.

UTC also intends to submit these programs for approval under the Army Credentialing Assistance program - of which UTC is already an approved provider. Applicants with current/prior military experience would be an asset to this further this effort.

These positions are not regular, full-time faculty/staff positions at UTC. Employment in a trainer/facilitator role is as needed and continued based on need and performance. Interested applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest and a resume, documenting desired certifications. A select group of applicants will be invited to deliver an instructor demo in front of peers and stakeholders for evaluation.

Estimated compensation: $85 - $100/ hour depending on experience and qualifications. Please see attached PDF for more information. Please contact [email protected].
