Passed PT0-003 today

The exam was definitely challenging — it wasn’t a walk in the park — but it was manageable if you’d put in the work. Some questions required deeper thinking and a solid grasp of the concepts, while others were more straightforward if you’d done enough practice. Time management was key. Overall, it pushed me, but it wasn’t unfair. With good preparation, it was tough in the right way.

New CompTIA A+ Perform vs Learn

Well, let's see if I can field that one.

CompTIA Learn and CompTIA Perform are very similar platforms, where you basically read the text in the form of modules, answer 'end-of-module' questions, and do some Performance-Based Questions (PBQ).

Perform is the next evolutionary step after the acquisition of TestOut's LabSim. LabSim provided module by module text but also had a much more mature and developed simulation engine than CompTIA had. Perform will integrate those virtual live-labs that were part of LabSIM with the Learn material.

Some might say that Learn is for people who really are getting their first exposures to the material whereas Perform provides that content but more of a "real-world" application of skill.

I personally have not gone through the A+ Perform material; right now, I'm doing the SecurityX Perform walkthrough, since my credential comes due this year, so I wanted a somewhat pure evaluation of the Perform product to Certification. I'll evaluate against other tools like Udemy's courses as well.

So, that's the scoop. Learn for newbies, Perform for those going further.

Security+ Voucher

For both of these, you'll want to reach out to your Business Development Manager to assist. CIN's voucher program only happens during the Train the Trainer series. Since Sec+ 701 was back in 2023, an exam voucher would not be available now. You can always procure one of those through the CompTIA store if your organization isn't a registered partner.

As for lab manuals, CompTIA doesn't do these as such now. You can get the CertMaster Learn from the CompTIA store for the 701, as well as the E-Book and so forth, but there isn't a dedicated lab manual. For that, you may have to look at products from Cengage or Pearson or something.

Passed Linux+ XK0-005

Sure, Linux is a tough topic area, but only at first. As a Linux user/developer/admin for over 25 years, I can assure you that with enough practice, caffeine, vi-induced Stockholm syndrome, and a few regrettable life decisions and kernel rebuilds, you'll eventually find it second nature... or at least enjoy reading man pages.

Wow, talk about white-knuckling your way through it--that was a lot of stuff going on to make the toughest CompTIA exam even more challenging! Thanks for sharing your study strategies. I've passed this one once but already dreading the next time I need to take it.
I like to next level my certification exam experiences. LOL!!
