Want some free training?

So, one of the things that I've had to do in the change of company directive has been to start learning and integrating our network to FortiNet technology.

So if you go out to https://training.fortinet.com and sign up for a free account, you can latch onto some free training, if you want to expand your horizons when studying for things in the CompTIA security track. Granted it's ALL vendor-driven, however, the way that they present the training is, at least as far as NSE 1-3 is concerned (haven't got that far yet), is conceptual, before rolling out what FortiProduct they have to answer the requirement. I don't know (probably not) if you can use the training in a classroom situation, but I think it's well built. Most of it is SCORM - some of it is more wow-video driven.

And if you're using FortiNet products or plan to in the future, it's probably a foregone conclusion to avail one-self of that training.

I think one can get the images from the FortiNet support site in order to stand up virtual appliances for training purposes - I haven't tried this yet, but it may be a good little exercise for those GNS3 environments we all built last year with @Lee McWhorter.

What free training do you know is out there that might be beneficial for the CIN? Post below!

Back to my FortiTraining. And no, I've not given up on any CompTIA certs I'm working on. But sometimes, things just jump onto one's plate...

Taught N10-008? Tell me everything!

I manage the Infrastructure Pathways product development at CompTIA, which from a ProdDev standpoint starts with Network+. I'm looking for feedback on our existing product offer, training materials for Network+ (N10-008). This information will help us tremendously when we begin development of the next version of the product (N10-009).

My team is holding roundtable discussions with instructors, administrators, course coordinators and other decision makers -- anyone who has boots-on-the-ground experience with the N10-008 course materials. I would love to get your feedback on your teaching experiences, what works and what doesn’t, and any wishlist items you might have regarding the Network+ (N10-008) training products.

I'm hosting discussions during the week of 24-April and the week of 1-May. Please feel free to sign up for a time: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/11f05acabd5e47a682f20ea1b76beab5 or email me directly at [email protected]. A member of the Learning team will provide attendees with instructions for joining the call.

Thanks for your interest!

PBQs in Data+ instructor materials

Hi all,

Maybe I am just blind (wouldn't be the first time), but I was looking at the CompTIA lesson plan for Data+ and it mentions PBQs in addition to presentation, videos and labs. See screenshot. But going through the official instructor materials, I cannot find the PBQs, they don't seem to be hidden in the powerpoint slides, practice or assessment questions nor anywhere else.

Can anybody point me to those PBQs, please?

Many thanks

Andreas

Finally, Comptia Pentest+

After an onsite bootcamp, out of curiosity, I decided to prepare for and take the Comptia Pentest+.
Mixed reactions from the result, although a very narrow win. Not sure whether to celebrate or go back and dig deeper.
Here we go guys, Comptia Pentest+

How should I display my certificates in my office?

IMG_0735.jpeg
These are printouts of the certificates as I keep the original framed at home. Should I present them chronologically that I earned them, or by color, or by CompTIA’s pathway? I was thinking to just tape these to my office wall and not need a frame. Should I buy more frames for these copies?
Please share your own Certificate Wall.

CertMaster Learn and Labs

I have a question, I have a student who bought CertMaster Learn and Labs, I don't use them in class but the student wanted to have them to study on their own for a test.

However, the student failed and wants to reset CertMaster Learn and Labs to start studying over again. Is there any way to reset back to zero on everything?

Thank you.

Resources for Classroom Instructions for ITF+

I'm new to the CompTIA Instructor Network and I'm interested in resources for classroom instruction for the ITF+ curriculum.

The Instructor Guide for ITF+ refers to resources on Skillpipe; however, nothing was included in my instructor guide on how to access this content. Also, are there other free resources available for use to teachers?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point!

Matt

What's the benefit of achieving 'the trifecta'?

Looking at various forums most noticeably Reddit, students discuss and target the goal of achieving 'the trifecta'; or A+, Network+, and Security+. Since these are three foundation certifications; what's the benefit? Is it a bragging rites thing? I noticed that some university programs - WGU was one - seem to require or encourage their students to go this route.

Pearson Disability Accommodation Problems

I am looking to find out how many people have students or themselves have problems with Pearson Vue and Accommodations issues. I am getting ready to draft a demand to PearonVue on this matter.

It seems to me that Pearson is violating the ADA on several levels.

PersonVue refuses to allow accommodation on the at-home testing platform PerasonVue Online Testing. This is a direct violation of the ADA under Title III. People with disabilities are barred from the PearonVue Online Testing platform. People with mobility disabilities are forced to go to a testing center, leave their homes, get rides to the testing centers, go to some testing centers that are not ADA compliant, then test in public. At the same time, people without disabilities are allowed to test anywhere.

"The ADA requires that any person offering examinations related to post-secondary education or profession “shall offer such examinations or courses in a place and manner accessible to persons with disabilities.” 42 U.S.C. § 12189. Regulations interpreting this section to impose an obligation on the entity offering such an examination that “ [t]he examination is selected and administered so as to best ensure that, when the examination is administered to an individual with a disability that impairs sensory, manual, or speaking skills, the examination results accurately reflect the individual's aptitude or achievement level or whatever other factor the examination purports to measure, rather than reflecting the individual‟s impaired sensory, manual, or speaking skills.” 28 C.F.R. § 36.309."

The ADA makes it unlawful to “coerce, intimidate, threaten, or interfere with any individual in the exercise or enjoyment of, or on account of his or her having exercised or enjoyed, any right granted or protected by this Act.” 42 U.S.C. § 12203.

The ADA requires that any person offering examinations related to post-secondary education or profession “shall offer such examinations or courses in a place and manner accessible to persons with disabilities.” 42 U.S.C. § 12189. As part of this duty to make an examination accessible, the regulations require that any documentation requested be “reasonable and limited to the need for the modification, accommodation, or auxiliary aid or service requested.” 28 C.F.R. § 36.309(b)(1)(iv).
