GNS3 and...I don't think my laptop likes VBox very much...

So, excitedly, I began to start setting up my environment for the CASP+ TTT.

However, it seems that VBox 6.1.28 decided to throw this error in the first tantrum of the morning:

Call to NEMR0InitVMPart2 failed: VERR_NEM_INIT_FAILED (VERR_NEM_VM_CREATE_FAILED).

Result Code:E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:ConsoleWrap
Interface:IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

According to this forum: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=104175&p=507408, there are issues with VBox 6.1.28 in running the GNS3 VM. Not sure what other VM's may be having trouble, but I rolled it back to 6.1.26. No go.

For some reason, despite having shut down every Hyper-V thing and even having Windows report that Hyper-V was down, only to have VirtualBox tell me in the log files that it wasn't, I took a sip of coffee and said, "well, heck..it's just a VM, so I guess we're going Redmond and rocking GNS3 on Hyper-V. It can't be all that bad...right?"

Well, seemed like everything was going smooth, until the GNS3 decided to tell me that eth0 wasn't configured. What? You should be getting IP information from Hyper-V...right?

> Get-NetNat

Nope...dead...like my dreams.

I guess I had to set up a different vEthernet switch, configure manually, configure eth0 in the VM to go manual...and after three cups of coffee and several colorful metaphors, scaring off the Amazon guy with a growl of frustration, and watching the minute hands on both of my wall clocks swing round about 3-4 times, I THINK I have it working now. I think it all makes sense.

Downloading Lee's project files - I think that's gonna take a little bit, so I'll finish up the bit of the preso from last night.

Didn't someone say this was the fun part...getting it to work? I'd like to have a little talk with that individual.

Anyone else have as much "fun" as I did? Comments and other snide comments below...

UK CompTIA Instructor Portal

Hey everyone... As a training provider I am always on the hunt for CompTIA Instructors for the entire range of courses.

I have decided to make this thread as a Point of Contact for all UK based trainers, so please feel to drop your details and the courses you can deliver (NB Please don't include 'Day Rates'.

My plan is to use this as a springboard to create a UK based CompTIA Training Community, where we can all share opportunities and help everyone out.... that's the plan anyway :)

Now that we mention beta: FC0-U71?

By the looks of it, ITF+ v6 is getting close to its retirement.

Will v7 be an incremental update compared to Net+ 7->8? Or will there be a beta like in 2018?

Can you tell taking beta exams is a hobby of mine? :D

New Cloud+ Exam Success

Team, I had spent time in the virtual testing center last night and passed/renewed my CompTIA Cloud+ certification! An excellent exam that covers a great deal of the cloud architectural environment.

For those that are pursuing a cloud career path, I do recommend this certification.

Keep at it!

Introducing the Cyber Cache!

So I've been talking about setting this up for a while, so I finally got it started.

The Cyber Cache is a CIN Resource where you can find things for your courses that are CySA / PenTest related. Of course, even I can't come up with a completely exhaustive list, so if you have something that didn't make the list, DM the link(s) over to me and I'll add it to the list. Every once in a while, I'll curate the list to make sure links don't end up broken. But the idea is for us to have a neat place to put this kind of stuff.

Eventually, we might do one of these Caches for different things for each exam. But for the moment, I wanted to start with this.

Since a lot of this came from Teresa Nash's CySA TTT, she gets the first shoutout.

So, let's get this built up!

Networking Mastery of Work Project Inquiry

I want to start off by stating I am the Networking Teacher at my school and the past year it has moved from being an elective to Major Course of study. They can come to my school and study different CTE industry's from Health Science, Engineering, Entertainment Technology, Web and Digital Arts, Computer Science (Programming), along with other topics. It gives students an opportunity to get started on their preferred industry for the next level of either profession or college education.
As part of the process in their senior year they produce a Mastery of Excellence presentation. It should be an display of excellence in something they learned about in their time spent in the major. It comprises of an essay they write and then a presentation based on that topic. Inside their presentation most have a product that is unique or tied to their major. For instance ET students would write and direct short films. Engineering would create something to solve a problem. Web and Digital will display their porfolio of work based on a particular interest.
I am trying to have my students be able to create their Product now, and I am looking for it to be more than just a Presentation. I would like for them to be able to create something.

So I am reaching out to all of my networking industry co-horts for some ideas on how to do this. I would like for it to be something more than just a Packet Tracer workup. I am hoping that perhaps you all incorporate projects of this type within your courses and can share upon some ideas.

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance in this endevour. Sorry for the extended post, but I felt it would be easier to understand the question if I exlained some of the back story.
