CySA+ TTT Series

We are excited to finally announce that registration for our next TTT series covering the CySA+ CS0-002 objectives. We may have been delayed, but we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the TTTs, virtually of course!! ???

The series will begin Tuesday June 2, 2020! We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks. Big change for this series, the live session will meet in the afternoon! So our time will be 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm CST. Don't worry if the time does not work as you can still catch up on each session on-demand as always.

I hope to "see" everyone on June 2 in the session. When you register, remember to select all of the sessions.

Webinar platform with quiz/polling feature

Hi CIN,

I just want to ask your inputs on this. What webinar tool/platform do you use for conducting our online training that has a quiz/polling feature?

As i can recall, the speakers during TTT sessions last year used similar tools. Do you have any idea how they do it?

Your ideas will be a great help to me.

Thanks!

2 Questions - LMS and Grading

Greetings...This has been my first semester using CompTIA's material to teach Linux+, Network+, and Security+. I have used a variety of other textbooks/course content, online labs etc, but thought I would try CompTIA books, and labs. I found them better than what I have used in the past, and the students have given me mostly positive feedback.

My questions are short, and perhaps have been answered in the past.
1) Is there any tools, or hacks that allow you to connect any of the CompTIA material/labs to an LMS?? (we use Canvas)
2) Anyone developed any methodology to grade a student's completion (or lack of) the online labs/videos??

Thanks...great to find this group of like minded folks

CompTIA Looking for Online Adjunct Instructors

Hello.

I am reaching out because I am looking for additional instructors to teach A+, Net+ and Security + online and was hoping you might know of peers or colleagues that you could recommend. We have several classes this summer/fall that I need additional instructors to fill. If you know of anyone that would be interested and qualified, can you let me know? It would be contract work and pay is consistent for all instructors at $600 a week for each class.

Thanks you so much!

June 30th Retirement - What's Next

Effective June 30th, I'll begin my "retirement" from the California Community College system. With that retirement comes a legally imposed 180-day restriction from teaching for any of our 115 community colleges in the system. With many of the colleges moving their programs over to an online format, absent this restriction I would be attempting to find a class or two to teach. However, given the fact that our community colleges are going to be facing an extreme reduction of funding, I suspect there will be some faculty layoffs and I'd hate to take away an opportunity from an instructor who really needs the income.

On the way out the door, I'm enjoying some notoriety. Yesterday I received notification that I was recently designated as a Cyber Hero. Not willing to sit in a rocking chair on the front porch, I'll likely focus on volunteer opportunities that focus on the need to improve efforts that focus on IT and cybersecurity education.

Benchmarking Association Web Sites

I administer the discussion forum web site for the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors.

Their facility was built by Audentio from similar resources to those you are using here. We are about to upgrade from a previous version of the software to the latest version.

Our community consists of people interested in time and timekeeping which is a hobby for the great bulk of members who have careers in other areas. My particular career was in Physiology and Biophysics and the use of computers in automation and research.. I started programming with the MIT Linc computer in 1963. I retired in 2002 and have been volunteering to manage the NAWCC computing infrastructure since then.

I would be interested in talking about how one manages the social interactions represented by the technical discussions in this environment. (i.e. social moderation)

CySA+ Promotional Video

Check out the promotional video for the new CySA+ certification starring CompTIA's Patrick Lane and CIN's CompTIA Everything+ @Lee McWhorter. The video was shot at the Covered 6 training facility in California that Lee oversees and teaches. Lee has put together a SOC training environment that is featured in the video. I don't know, but I think these CIN stars could make it in Hollywood!

CySA+ Baby, Yes!

1587775784562.pngWell, after a grueling 2 1/2 hours, I did it. Passed the CySA+. 838/900. I thought I duffed it, and here, I get a respectable score. Thank the Lord Almighty - I was praying the entire time.

Overall, it has to have been one of the most challenging certs I've taken to date. I am looking forward to PenTest+ and eventually, CASP+, along with the other certs in the Irongeek. Took the 001, though, since that's the one on which I've been working for ever.

So, I think I've earned my glass of mead this evening. But many thanks to all in CIN and the countless others that stood by my constant prattling over "getting that damned test done", and the eyerolls of "we've heard that before". And I heard that 002 is even more fun. Will have to try it sometime, after I finish up the pile of other certs I need to finish.

Meanwhile, I walk out of the testing room, pick up my cell phone, and the world's on fire, because the outfit that runs our DNS host had a catastrophic failure - so the company's e-mail and external web site is down. Day after day, everything is dead quiet, but today, a Friday, when it would be more quiet (one would think), the world is blowing up outside while I'm melting my brain in the test room. My junior partner even drove to my house, because only my VP knew I was taking a test that day. How the heck does this kind of thing happen? I'll be remembering this story.

Well, that's my Friday, as I sit here, waiting for our DNS host to fix their server and get back up. But I had to jump on here and do a virtual celebration dance. This one was hard fought.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

How to reprint exam results detail with exam socre?

I took a CompTIA certification exam online on Monday and failed the exam. The exam results should have printed out at the end showing my score and what areas of questions I missed. How can I get access to the information so I can print it out. I particularly need the exam score, not just result (pass or failed). I am asking because my students are required to submit their official scores when they take their exams as part of the course requirements. If there is a problem with printing out the exam scores at the end of their test, they will need a way to access this information. I asked PersonVue and they were unable to access the information.

Thank you to anyone who might be able to help.

Launchcert - A+,Network+, and Security+ resource

Hello all,

I've been a part of this CIN for some time now but am posting a thread for the first time. I just launched a new website, launchcert.com (or launchcertlogin.com to create an account) that is filled with A+, Network+, and Security+ resources. Individuals can go here for free and access flashcards and play a Space Wars exam concept game. If you create an account and pay for 30-day access ($20) you will have access to tons of practice questions, exam objectives focused notes, etc. Enjoy!

CTT+ excluded from online testing?

Hi there, g'day!

I'm currently prepping to take the CTT+ exams and am looking forward to the experience very much. I was surprised to see that CTT+ is excluded from the test-at-home online testing that will go live in about a week's time -> http://comptia.org/testing/online-testing-interest-form

Online testing is not available in China, Cuba, Iran, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Slovenia, Sudan, and Syria. Other exclusions include CTT+ and any site licenses.

I'm very curious as to why the theoretical part of the CTT+ examination would be excluded. It does not strike me as dissimilar to the other tests.
