Job opening for A+, Net+ & Sec+ trainer!

Access Computer Training is a growing post-secondary technical training school in Tampa Bay, FL. We have been providing these CompTIA courses since January of 2022 and have consistently been enrolling more and more students and are now in need of an additional trainer to help with added classes as well as bootcamps for local businesses/contractors to certify their employees and transitioning military. The position is a remote part time position at roughly 20 hours per week starting at $30/hr as a contract trainer. We can be flexible on the schedule and will work with you to accommodate your schedule. Looking for someone to hopefully move into a roll of full time employee as my director of IT training. This position comes with the need for an energetic person who is enthusiastic about transferring the knowledge to students who are completely new to the IT industry, in career changing situations and need a little extra hand holding. Access Computer Training takes pride in our approach to help each individual student with their learning needs. Mentorship is critical. We bring in subject matter experts who are working in the industry to talk to the students about their own career path and where they are today. Giving students a realistic outlook on their own potential as they embark on a new career journey. Study hard, work hard, and study some more to pass these exams and get the certs is critical especially when they come with no IT background but aspire to get into Networking or CyberSecurity. We strive for the success of each and every student and become their accountability partner through this endeavor. If you are passionate about teaching and have the ability to keep students on track and excited about the possibilities, please reach out. I'd love to chat with you. Thanks, Kristin

  • Question
Including Certification Testing in Curriculum

Hi there,

In our IT programs, we provide students with vouchers which cover the cost of whichever certification exams may be covered in that program. For example, in our beginning IT program, we provide the students with vouchers to take the A+ and Network+ exams, however, many of them never seem to get around to taking them, and of course, we are supposed to provide pass rates for the exams. I have heard of some schools and programs that basically embed the certification exams into the coursework.

Does anyone have an example of best practices on how to do this, and to get the students to actually take the exam.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

False Positive/Negative in biometrics

Had a student miss a question today based upon information that does not appear in the SG or slides. It has to do with False Positive being synonymous with False Acceptance Rate. And while the definition (someone's biometric matching with the wrong person and possibly giving them unauthorized access), somewhat lines up, it isn't something they would be able to read and extrapolate. And for False Negative, it means that someone was denied access that should have been given access based upon proper credentials/biometrics, being synonymous with False Rejection Rate. My issue isn't the definitions, it is that this information is not presented to the students in a way that they would get the question correct, since we usually refer to False Positive/Negative in terms of vulnerability analysis and device alerts, and they don't quite line up with the biometrics in terms of their meanings. I added it as an addendum to make sure my students know these definitions now. Maybe I'm totally wrong though. I defer to the esteemed consensus of my fellow instructors.

CompTIA Partner Summit

It was great meeting up with fellow CINers. Great information and ideas were exchanged. I just have more questions regarding the TestOut certification phase out and the plans for the replacement of the TestOut certifications. A special thanks to @Rick Butler and @Stephen Schneiter . @Robert Bodnar some of your questions were answered. Additional explanations will be forthcoming. Until next time CINers...

ChannelCon / Partner Summit 2023: Thursday

Day Three: And yes, I got up for the gym. But the fitness center is pretty empty this morning so I have this distinct feeling that the Tao party last night turned today into a rest day for them.

No matter, let's get after it..

ChannelCon and Partner Summit 2023: Tuesday

Hello all of you fellow CIN'ers - coming to you from Las Vegas and the very first day of the conference. As I did last year, I will be posting throughout the day of what I encounter during the conference for those of you that were unable to make it.

I think there were some people who decided to go out running, but this old guy doesn't do that much anymore. So how about something uplifting instead...

CompTIA Xpert series certifications 2024

CompTIA reveals roadmap for Xpert Series product family

Jul 31, 2023

New expert-level certifications, learning products and training curricula planned for 2024
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – CompTIA, the world’s leading certifying body in information technology (IT), announced today it is developing a new series of expert-level certifications and learning products in data, cybersecurity and cloud networking.
The CompTIA Xpert Series certifications are scheduled for release throughout 2024. The certifications are intended for IT professionals with multiple years of work experience who are interested in validating their expert-level knowledge of business-critical technologies.
“Each certification exam will validate deep expertise in job roles recognized as being at the expert level,” said Thomas Reilly, chief product officer, CompTIA. “Beyond validating technical skills, IT pros who earn a CompTIA Xpert Series certification will have demonstrated their ability to understand, implement and articulate advanced technology solutions in any business environment.”
The CompTIA Xpert Series will debut with three certifications.
CompTIA DataX, an advanced-level data science credential.

CompTIA CloudNetX, intended for advanced network and systems architects who design and manage complex, hybrid IT infrastructures.

CompTIA SecurityX, the next iteration of the current CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), aimed at security architects, senior security engineers and others responsible for an organization’s cybersecurity readiness.
“The first set of Xpert Series certifications will establish a foundation for a broader expansion into expert-level credentials and learning,” Reilly said. “This may include additional CompTIA certifications, CompTIA training for credentials issued by other organizations or training on expert-level skills that may not be associated with a specific certification.”
Two IT professionals who are participating in the certification development process as subject matter experts believe the CompTIA Xpert Series will be welcomed by the IT community, especially among mid-level and advanced level professionals.
"The Xpert Series exams are a great addition to CompTIA's portfolio,” said Alex Cher, who has worked in IT and cybersecurity since 2006. “CompTIA has an advanced-level certification in cybersecurity, so it makes sense to create similar, advanced exams for infrastructure and other certification categories. The Xpert Series will perfectly fill that void."
“Ongoing career professional development by gaining new skills and experiences is vital to anyone working in IT,” said Riaz Khimji, who heads the IT Support Staff Services and Business Relationship Management Collegiate IT, at the University of Oxford. “Individuals can be even more successful in their current role and gain further knowledge in other areas of interest as they progress in their careers. Certifications such as those offered by CompTIA allow them to validate their newly acquired skills.”
CompTIA is also developing learning resources and training curricula aligned with the Xpert Series certifications. Learn more at https://www.comptia.org/certifications/xpert-series.

CTT+ Virtual Classroom Trainer Recording Requirements

Hey, all!

I'm on my way to completing the CTT+ and am in the process of getting a good recording of a session. I taught a session that I'm really proud of, but I noticed that the chat does not show up within the recording. Is it a requirement for the TKO-203? If it is a requirement, does anyone know how to make sure it is picked up within the recording on Zoom?

Thanks for any assistance!

-Avery

Introducing urlscan dot io (for Security+ & CySA+)

Fellow Instructors,

In Security+ and again in CySA+ (and CASP+) students need to understand how the www works. I often use Virustotal dot com to briefly demo how to investigate suspect urls and files. I found another web based (free to use) tool that helps explain more. That's urlscan dot io. I should provide a hat tp to some of my SOC colleagues from LinkedIn who have been pointing at this for a few weeks.

urlscan.jpg
A user submits a url and urlscan goes off and scans the site. I chose to scan comptia.org.

Comptia_http.jpg
The scan returns info about the site and http transactions (with associated response codes). Note CompTIA dot org is being served (to me) via an IPv6 address in the USA. You can show all of the elements that make up a web page. You can show the site certificates and check their expiration. Another great capability is to show the DOM scripts served from the site to the client browser.

Comptia_DOM.jpg

Warning: Make sure that you scan the site in advance and develop your own 'script' about which fields you are going to share with students. There is a ton of info here and you want to avoid having students asking about each and every field.

That said I was able to turn this into a short (less than 10 minutes) demo that graphically links different concepts important to the course.

Enjoy!

Brian

A+ 1101 voucher request

Hello everyone,

I finished all of the 1101 Train the Trainer pre-recorded sessions on July 8th of this year. I understand that it takes two weeks after completion to get a voucher and that everyone at CompTIA is busy. Can anyone tell me about how long it took you to receive one so I know what to expect. I have the completion certificates from each session. Do I need to provide them to someone?

Thank you,
Mike

New to CompTIA - need help with purchase options

Hello,
I am offering a PC hardware/CompTIA A+ class in my high school and need help with how to identify the cost of the CertMaster products and what I need to purchase. I've downloaded the Academic Price List pdf, but I don't know if these prices apply to me, as an academic partner. I'm a bit confused, and submitting a help ticket didn't help.

I'm looking at the CompTIA Integrated CertMaster Learn + Labs for A+ Core 1 and Core 2 (220-1101 and 220-1102). I have 7 students in the class.

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
