What's the benefit of achieving 'the trifecta'?

Looking at various forums most noticeably Reddit, students discuss and target the goal of achieving 'the trifecta'; or A+, Network+, and Security+. Since these are three foundation certifications; what's the benefit? Is it a bragging rites thing? I noticed that some university programs - WGU was one - seem to require or encourage their students to go this route.

My Life in Retirement (Post-Teaching)

Below a message I spammed out today to the residents in my senior (55+) community:

As some of you know, I'm approaching full retirement from teaching in May as I leave my current role as an IT/cybersecurity professor at Saddleback College and National University. My efforts will then focus on volunteer activities as detailed on this Meals on Wheels website. Over this past month, I've been involved in providing a couple of residents with technology services as they move their Internet/Cable TV access from their existing carriers (ATT, DirectTV, Cox) over to T-Mobile. The primary reasons they have done that is improved service and a substantial cost reduction. Service here in the Village is a real challenge given the simple fact that ATT and Cox no longer appear to be maintaining their infrastructure (look at those boxes sitting near the street). A good contact at the T-Mobile store is:

If you are interested in considering this alternative I recommend that you take your service bills (Internet/TV/Cellular) to T-Mobile's store (down the hill next to Albertsons), and ask what sort of cost reduction you can expect switching over to them. Mention the Home Internet and T-MobileMagenta Max 55 program that provides discounts to seniors. My charge for setting the technology up is a $52.50 donation to Meals on Wheels or another charity of your choice.

CertMaster Learn and Labs

I have a question, I have a student who bought CertMaster Learn and Labs, I don't use them in class but the student wanted to have them to study on their own for a test.

However, the student failed and wants to reset CertMaster Learn and Labs to start studying over again. Is there any way to reset back to zero on everything?

Thank you.

PBQs in Data+ instructor materials

Hi all,

Maybe I am just blind (wouldn't be the first time), but I was looking at the CompTIA lesson plan for Data+ and it mentions PBQs in addition to presentation, videos and labs. See screenshot. But going through the official instructor materials, I cannot find the PBQs, they don't seem to be hidden in the powerpoint slides, practice or assessment questions nor anywhere else.

Can anybody point me to those PBQs, please?

Many thanks

Andreas

  • Question
How often does incoherent proctoring via OnVue occur?

G'day all.

I've been hearing reports of incoherent and unpredictable proctoring by OnVue employees for a few years now. Never to such a degree that I thought it was happening in huge amounts of cases, but one could reason that anything over 0.5% of the exams is already egregious.

The latest thread on Reddit is getting raucous responses -> Login to view embedded media
Proctors are often perceived as overly strict, focusing on making students "fail", giving students contradicting instructions of even (intentionally) giving instructions that would normally break rules.

This matter is something that has a lot of students worried for their exams and they actively blame CompTIA for it, all the more so because CompTIA and PearsonVue will point fingers at each other when the affected student tries to dispute the aborted exam.

I'd love to hear from CompTIA how they handle quality control with PearsonVue.
