CertMaster Lab stuck in a "Running" state, what to do?

My CEUs are due tonight by 1:59 AM EST. I have completed 99% of the Certmaster Learn and labs to gain my last needed 25 CEUs. However, one lab is stuck in a "Running" state and will not award my last 30 knowledge points to get the completed certificate needed. Anyone have any advice? Other than, "Well, you had 3 years to complete this..." LOL

Looking for CompTIA Instructors near Kankakee, 60901

I am currently the Director of Computer Science training at Kankakee Community College. I am looking to create curriculum that results in college credit and also will hit all objectives for the certs. We all know how important certifications are and by giving students pathways to a degree and also getting them certified at the same will open many doors for these students. Currently our IT programs are seriously lacking but we are looking to change that. Are there any local instructors that may be interested in either FT or adjunct work? We have not posted any jobs yet but I wanted to check here for any interest first.

Thanks,

John

Does the NSA/DHS Designation as a CAE Provide Unwanted Attention for Colleges/Universities?

In the article I raise the possibility that academic institutions obtaining the NSA/DHS designation as a Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) may be drawing the unwanted attention of ransomware gangs, seeking to demonstrate their skills against alleged hardened targets. Thoughts?

*** Risk Management ***

Did you miss the CompTIA Partner Summit product demonstration sessions? Check here for an update!

Hey everyone, it was great to see many of you at our Partner Summit a few weeks back! While we understand we were able to answer most of your questions at the Summit, we also realize that many of you may still need more information or have questions around CompTIA products and solutions. Here is a recap of what we did at this year’s Partner Summit:

CertMaster Learn

We worked with our Partners demoing (some for the first time) the roles/views/functionality of CertMaster Learn. We highlighted the CertMaster Learn + Labs Integrated product and shared how Students can launch/access their labs directly from the platform, giving the instructor visibility to Labs reporting directly from the Boost Dashboard. We worked with current users, and we were able to help them utilize their products more efficiently by showcasing features they didn't know they had!

CertMaster Labs

This product was demonstrated via the CertMaster Learn platform as we grew more awareness around the CertMaster Learn + Labs Integrated product. We showcased the newly built A+ Workbench Labs both in the main Partner Summit area (presented by Penelope Johnson), and in the CompTIA Learning Lounge.

CertMaster Practice

We gave a look at our final training product platform under the CertMaster Suite umbrella. This session allowed instructors to see that their students can have more practice exams from a larger bank of questions using CertMaster Practice, helping to solidify their knowledge in preparation for their certification exam!

Some questions you may still have include:

  • What, as an instructor, can I do to maximize my students’ learning potential within the product platforms?
  • How do I get access to the CompTIA products and/or platforms?
  • I would like to see a product demo, how do I go about that?
The answer to these, and MANY MORE questions can be answered by using the following links below.

For Current Partners:

You can access our CertMaster Solutions Support Request Form to submit a request with our Partner Support Team.

For Prospective Partners/Instructors:

Please submit a ticket request to our email address at [email protected], our Partner Support Team is standing by to assist!

From Question of the Week.... to Question of the Month!?

Hi everyone!

It has been such an amazing experience for the Partner Support Team over the past few months, establishing ourselves within CIN and connecting with you all. The Interaction has been so valuable to us and now that you are all familiar with us and know that we are here for you, we are going to move to a monthly cadence of our Questions and Answers series. This does not mean that our interaction with you is going to change at all. In fact, we are intensifying our overview of this and other forums within CIN so that we can support you throughout your journey with CompTIA.

It was so great to see everyone at the Partner Summit! Thank you to those who stopped by the Learning Lounge to see some demos, get some 1-1 time with our experts, and those who were actively looking for us for that all-important face-to-face introduction. Our entire team was not able to attend this time so we look forward to the next event where the possibility of meeting face-to-face is even greater!

A reminder that this forum is for all conversations relating to CertMaster Solutions. If you have a question about implementation or functions, this is the place to post. Also, use this area to share your experience and best practices for how you are implementing CertMaster Solutions. Let's keep the conversation going and accelerate our peer-to-peer knowledge sharing to make this worldwide community a great success!

And Lastly, submit your questions, comments, advice now! We can't wait to hear what you have to say.

Have a great week everyone and thank you for being so awesome!!

Partner Summit: Day 2

Well good morning, CIN, it's day 2 of the Partner Summit and the last day for all the festivities. With ChannelCon wrapping up and after last night's bash out on the Navy Pier, people are a little slower on the take.

Hopefully you've had an opportunity to see what it's like if you yourself wasn't able to make it in person.

So let's get started with the day! Chime in and let us know how you've liked the sessions.

Time for a Little Humor

I live in a 55+ community. As I work my way into full retirement I've been providing tech support for community residents. Not wanting to give this service away, I ask residents to make donations by going to the following website:

A couple of days ago, one of the residents sent me a link (see below) as a joke that points to a challenging aspect of providing tech support to seniors. A warning regarding the link. Some of you may find it distasteful so don't click it.

Operating Systems course - resource suggestions

I am reaching out for suggestions for textbooks/resources to use for a course that I am teaching. The course is an introductory to intermediate look at current Windows and Linux operating systems. The course description and objectives/learning outcomes are as follows:

Course Description:

This course examines two of the most prominent operating systems: Windows and Linux. Students will explore structural and functional topics in both operating system environments to complete hands-on activities that reinforce using various commands and interfaces for each task. Tasks include: Installing and maintaining operating systems; Configuring and utilizing standard utilities and applications; Implementing and maintaining files and file systems; Exploring the fundamentals of installing, managing, and configuring network clients.

Student Learning Objectives:
  • Configure and manipulate Windows and Linux-based systems operating systems
  • Configure and manage operating system interfaces, utilities, and applications
  • Perform basic file management operations
  • Create, mount, and manage operating system file systems
  • Identify, access, and control hardware resources
  • Maintain and update operating system installations
  • Connect and share operating system resources via simple network environments
This course bridges the skills and knowledge acquired from the CompTIA A+ objectives covering these operating systems to Microsoft Windows Desktop Admin certification objectives and CompTIA Linux+ objectives. It is not designed to teach System Admin level skills rather, it is intended to provide a deeper understanding and exploration of both environments before moving to the administrator level.

I have used a Cengage textbook for this course for the last 3 years, but it is now time to update. Cengage has discontinued the textbook/author relationship, so I need to find some new resources. What I have found does not really fit the course's objectives, and there are not many usable hands-on resources in the Cengage offerings that have been suggested.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JB

Educational Institutions and Ransomware

In an earlier posting I discussed the importance of getting your name out there by writing articles. Since I've decided in retirement to teach less and write more, I thought it a good idea to share this article I wrote (and actually received compensation for). For those of you who are teaching at colleges and universities, I'd appreciate it if you have the same sort of opinions I've suggested.
