CIN The Pulse - Game On: Incorporating National Cyber League Competitions into your Classroom

CompTIA recently announced a partnership with the National Cyber League (NCL). NCL enables students to prepare and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce.

Examples include:
  • Identifying hackers from forensic data
  • Pentesting and auditing vulnerable websites
  • Recovering from ransomware attacks, and much more!
Join us in this session as CIN welcomes Curtis Coleman and Stephen Miller, NCL Coaches, to introduce the program. Extensions for ADD/ADHD?

Hola!

A while back, someone asked about extensions or facilities for test-takers with visual limitations. I would now instead like to ask about students with attention deficit disorders. Do you reckon CompTIA could work in arragements for students like these? I have a few folks in my class (incl. folks with severe anxiety), who could certainly use the reassurance of an extension.

Cheers,

Tess

Back to School Resources

Some folks are already back with students, others are just now getting back. CompTIA put together a "Back to School Kit" with resources to promote certification and IT to your students. Looks like some good information! I really like the "Battle Cards" that talk about the value of individual certifications. Of course I also like that they promote CIN!! Check it out!

DEFCON Red Team Village Class

I got the honor of teaching class for the Red Team Offensive Village at DEFCON Safemode this year. I thought I'd share. It is on building a cyber range in GNS3 and hopefully some will find useful. Plus this post pushes me ahead of @Stephen P again on the leader board muhaha. P-)

Great list of Virtual Security Cons

A good friend of mine from the DEFCON Red Team Village and Grayhat, has put together an amazing list of all the security conferences that have gone virtual due to Covid. For those interested in or learning Cyber Security, the ability to attend such virtual events has been one silver lining of the current situation. I encourage all our students to attend and get involved. Check it out.

Looking at what equipment would be best to stand up a lab to train for Network+, Security+ and Server+?

I'm mainly looking at teaching at an undergraduate level, with real hands on, in order to provide students the instruction they need to pass any/all of the certifications listed.

I've considered the following: https://www.certificationtrainingsolutions.com/product/ccna-security-standard-labkit/ even though it's listed as CCNA, think it could be used for Network+ and Security+.

Does anyone know of another company that sells similar products, maybe geared more towards CompTIA?

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

CIN Instructor Location

Hi Everyone,

How do we get in touch with other instructors in a specific location/country here in CIN? Is there away for us to view other members according to their location?

I think this is very helpful in connecting with other CIN members in the area (ex. Philippines, in my case).

It will also be easier for us to refer friends living in other countries to fellow CompTIA instructors in that area.

Is this possible here in CIN portal?

Thanks!

- Ivan

Grading based on CompTIA Learn

Any advice or best practices for issuing grades based on CompTIA Learn information? It provides average for the Practice Questions and PBQs, which helps. But what if a student doesn't complete them all? And how does it relate to Curriculum that I put configured, which eliminates a few activities? Lastly, is there a Forum on here, or elsewhere, specifically for CompTIA Learn questions? Thank you!
